Gameplay tips and progression

Well first off choose any class. I prefer the royal because of his low soul level. Strip your character of everything except one weapon and go through 1-1 (I recommend playing the Journey to the Nexus so you can get used to fighting with only a weapon. Equip the Cling Ring when you find it. After you've returned to the nexus, level up vitality till about 20 and then work on endurance. Go to 4-1 and pick up the Crescent Falchion. I recommend pushing through till you have killed the 1st reaper in 4-2. Return to the Nexus and you should have a lot of souls to spend. Level up endurance till about 20. Now time to choose the weapon you want to dedicate yourself to. For me, after fighting through 4-1 with only a falchion, I had a newfound love for it, so I chose that. But after you've picked a weapon you want, progress to upgrading it down a path like crushing, sharp, moon, or blessed. Depending on the path you chose, you will level up the stat that corresponds with it (crushing- strength, moon- magic, sharp- dexterity, blessed- faith). So now you have an idea of how your character will progress. Level up vitality to 50, endurance to 40, and dump the rest into the stat you chose. If you plan on taking this into PvP, your stats should be vitality at 50, endurance at 40, and your other stat at (55 if strength, 58 if dexterity, 59 if magic, and 58 if faith), for a cap at soul level 120. These stats are if you chose the royal class.

For me the best thing about this build is the sense of accomplishment you get when beating the game using practically nothing. Demon's Souls wad already such a rewarding game but using only one weapon and no armor really makes it fun! The first thing I noticed when using this build was how much better I got at the game. I never realized how much I depended on armor or a shield until I didn't have it! I started having to clock enemy attacks and study rhythms and what not. It was frustrating but so rewarding when I finally returned to the nexus with a new demon soul :)
