Gameplay tips and progression |
The Ninja/Assassin must be swift, cunning, incredibly deadly, and and above all else, possess the stealth of the shadows. To begin your Thief on the path of the Ninja/Assassin four stats should be focused on: -Endurance: Rolling and maneuverability are your friends……no…..scratch that; maneuverability is your LIFE in Demon's Souls, and for a Ninja, it is the air he breathes . Being swifter than one's opponent is a must (can't hit what you can't see). Endurance increases overall stamina which not only helps with rolling but also how well of a combo you can pull off depending on one or two-handed wielding. Recommended rating of 30 to get you comfortably through NG. -Intelligence: Ninja's are by no means ruffians or dimwitted. Cunning and Deceit are vital parts of a Ninja's arsenal. Most stray from Intelligence unless playing a Magician or other Magic heavy class, but we must remember that the ways of the arcane are not unknown to the Ninja class. A rating of at least 25 will equip you with a spell capacity of approximately four spells. As a ninja spells that should be focused on are those suchs as Cloak, Poison Cloud, Acid Cloud, Death Cloud, and your best weapon as a Ninja is Evacuate. Strike with lethal swiftness and vanish just as quickly. High intelligence also equips your ninja with a plethora of MP to use against his victims. Spells like Soul Arrow and Soul Ray are quite useful for stealthy assassinations. -Strength: Your thief will begin the game with a Strength rating of 9, so most oft times this will be your first stop when increasing soul level. A comfortable rating of 25 will endow you with a Ninja who will hold his own in the unlikely (yeah, right!) case that you are seen by your prey. This will also enable you to efficiently wield any and all Asian weapons (Curved and Katanas), the best suitable weapons for a Ninja. Straight swords are also handy, though the two-handed style is a bit slow for those favoring swiftness. A high strength will also enable your Ninja to wield the shield of his/her liking (the Heater Shield is lightest 100% deflect shield in game, though for sturdiness a Spiked (which is the same weight as the Heater) or Kite shield may be preferred. -Dexterity: Dexterity is key in that it is the only other stat that effects your attack power. It also is a staple modifier for most upgrades and the key modifier for the Ninja's weapon of choice, The Dagger. All daggers primarily benefit (along with Bows) from your Dexterity rating. Daggers upgraded to Tearing or Sharp can peak with an S benefit from Dex. A Fatal dagger can be a ninja's most powerful ally if you are well versed at the critical attack (backstabs and riposte) and Dexterity is the primary damage bonus provider for daggers, especially sharp or tearing which can have an S level bonus for DEX. Endurance and Vitality are important, but are second to Dexterity. A Fatal dagger can be good as well if you are really good at performing back stabs and riposte. With the added boost that all daggers receive landing a critical attack on an unsuspecting enemy can land massive damage and allow you to fall quietly back into the shadows as only a ninja can. -Quick Tip(s): Gaining Vitality and your other stats to around twenty should grant you a very well-to-do Ninja/Assassin. Spells like the status cloud's are tools of the more skilled and trained assassin. Demon's Prank is also a very useful. |

In both u gona be invisible…
Stealth effects don't stack; the more powerful ones will replace the weaker.

Ask my anything. About Magic, that is.
how much dam are you doing with this build and at wut level?
I'm using this build right now @ lvl 70 ATM, dmg can be a little dicey, unless you hold back on Str. and End. a little early on and pump Dex., or upgrade weapons fast. When you get your weapons to +3 sharp or tearing, thats about where you start reaping people. You can hold back Str. at 22 and still wield big weapons, so you can push your Dex. into the 30's first before coming back to str.
Right now i'm @ 24 28 24 28, w/ a +5 sharp broadsword @ 235, and a +4 tearing flameberge @ at 214 with 273 bleed, its always two handed though and its main purpose isn't really raw damage but as an equalizer against turtles and other long weapons and that bleeding is nice too. Not the only weapons i use but they serve me well in pvp. About to make a pair uchi's +5 tearing and sharp….. ;]
The only downside to this build, is you better not get hit, you'll more than likely take massive damage, because you don't wear armor. When you hit about 25 End. you can wear gauntlets and leggings to boost defense, without sacrificing weaponry or mobility. But it means little when you're fighting a slashing weapon, the damage will hit you hard.
Im working on a ninja of my own your build is something to consider though mine will be totally unbalance and more geared for throwing weapons and arrows But +1 i like this
A lot of people say life has it's bumps in the road.
Well I have not had any. As long as I'm still breathing I call this ISHT smooth sailing.
Tears are for the strong. Alot of us weak men cant cry anymore.
This is a reaally good build and i have built up to most of it and its amazing
I thought of some changes you could make to the build. I rose my Vitality to at least 18, because some of the enemies in this game can own you at just 10 Vitality. Just something to think about. Great build by the way XD!!!!

And he tried to kill me multiple times,
After the first failed attempt
I still love him…" -Cecil FFIV
Isuggest War Scythe for the tearing, Hidden Dagger for Fatal, and for sharp i suggest Kilij. it is a very fast. almost dagger like. others argue that Uchi is better but i think the speed is worth giving up the 5 damage and 30 bleed. you already have a bleed weapon (Scythe) so your covered. i use this build and i haven't lost a single PvP battle.i used this build pretty much. but like Isau said. pump dex early. i pumped it to 32 after i got 20 str. then i started working on endurance.
P.S. when you use the war scythe ALWAYS use it two handed. or its way to slow because it just swings in circles with one hand.
This build is very close to the character I want to play. I will certainly try it out.
After following the build to level 20 or so, I can say that it definitely requires a particular playstyle heavy on skill rather than gear. It also requires a player to learn the ins and outs of dodging and, most importantly to survival, setting up oneself for backstabs and riposte timing, accomplished through strategic end placement of rolls. I found that even the "big uglies" of the game, like Miralda, can be successfully backstabbed after a roll.
I've made a character based off of this. However I made some fundamental differences.
Starting Character: Knight..
since i'm adding no vit, magic, faith or luck to my character and going to keep him < SL 90, The orientation as a Knight saves 5 levels.
Str is maxed at 18 because I see no need to use the LSoS.. and 18 allows steel shield / uchigatanas / hiltless.
The main issue I have had is vs turtles not taking backstab damage and standing in choke points on the level.. so to remedy this i'm working on upgrading a Shotel,
I have not used demon prank or clouds yet but I am looking forward to it. I would suggest bringing a bow or soul ray because sometimes it is extremely important to grab their attention. or get them to seek cover.
One more thing i'll mention is you should carry some projectiles in your consumables as well… kunai/secrets make the most sense to stay true to the build but firebombs are really classy because they stun and confuse.
I am currently using this build. I have pumped to 25 Dex and 25 End. My Str is at 14 and I am not going to pump more into it as I am not planning on using anything that requires 25, so I will put the extra 11 points into my Dex. I haven't put anything into my thief's Int yet, but as soon as I max out my other categories I will start to work on that.
My favorite weapons for this are:
Tearing - War Scythe (two-handed)
Fatal - Secret Dagger
Sharp - Kilij
Shield - Heater Shield
I am now working on getting the spells, but I recommend getting Soul Arrow to start off with as it makes the game a lot easier to play and you can always switch it out for the clouds. I am not picking up Cloak though as I have the Thief's Ring and it doesn't stack.
General Build Tips:
1. Pump Dex to 20/25
2. Pump End to 20/25
3. Pump Str to 14/18/25 (Your preference, again I chose 14 because the highest weapon requirement is 14 for the Kilij) - Uchigatanas is Str 18 requirement
4. Pump Int to 4 Spell Slots.
I am using this build and have taken it past the level 70. In NG+ I'm finding that it's very helpful to have more vitality.
What I'm using:
Dagger +10 (Building a Sharp Secret Dagger +5 but having a hell of a time with the bladestones.
Baby Nail +5 (for PVP, yay plague!)
Heater Shield +10
Sticky Compound Long Bow +5 (This one is a must because of the bonus you get from your crazy high Dexterity. I find generally in PVE i can snipe anything off using normal arrows before i even get to it. And…. it adds to the assassin part :) )
Armor: I'm female in game so i'm rocking the Binding set. It's badass and looks like Miralda.
