Gameplay tips and progression |
A FAITH + DEX build. Centers around getting enough END to wear heavy armor and still roll properly, enough STR to wear heavy weapons, enough VIT to where the player is comfortable, then simply pumping DEX and FAITH until sick of leveling. This allows great use of Blessed Weapons (the mirdan hammer works great all around), the Large Sword of Moonlight, Istarelle, as well as Tearing weapons and Sharp weapons. If interested in farming, damage with a Viscous Compound Long Bow+5 is outstanding due to high DEX. If the player is confident, putting any points into Magic is too many. As far as spells, Slow Recovery can easily outstrip bleeding or poison at later levels (thanks to the high FAITH), Anti-Magic Field can help in PvP, or One Time Revival, up to the players preference. This has been played up to slvl 200, and has proven incredibly effective. Final major stats were 40 VIT (decent HP pool), 40 END (maximum amount of stamina), 30 STR (wear things properly), 60 DEX (damage) and 65 FAITH (damage), sticking with Slow Recovery, Evacuate and Anti-Magic Field, occasionally switching to One Time Revival for miracles. Alternatively, Cure can be utilized for world 5, as well as PVP usage against cloud users, as Anti-Magic Field/One Time Revival cannot stack with Slow Recovery miracle. |
Paladin
Hello to all,
I am somewhat of a newby to DS. Still on first play through with a Paladin Build. I'm just wondering: surely you are required to put some points towards INT/WILL to increase your MP so you can use miracles like One-time Revival (100 MP required)? With 9 INT I only have 57MP. I'm close to farming 250k worth of souls to get my INT to 14 (102 MP). Can somebody please comment before I possibly waste my time?! Is there another way to temporarily increase your MP?
Cheers,
mixz0r
I would boost your INT up so you can use them spells for sure, Although you can wear the SILVER CORONET found in the TOWER OF LATRIA, 3-1 to increase your MP bar by 20% if your not worried about using a helmet and really want to increase other stats for now. I find magic and miracles very important in this game and ignored boosting them in my first play through and suffered badly.
Good call - thanks Mav.
what kind of armor would you wear with a 40 End?
The full gloom set, which is a nice balance of defence and mobility. That's what I used with the Paladin build, anyway
It's not recommended here for this build but if you're fond of knock back Blessed Great Sword +5 can do wonders with the right timing, you can kill anything that you can knock down without giving them the chance to completely stand up and take a swing at you. When knocked back the opponent slowly tries to get up, wait 2 seconds and swing again to repeat the knock back, you can even start the process with a back stab!
Just remember that St.Urbain's female follower gives away 1 x Pure Faintstone per game, needs 20 faith though, and it's really hard to get one even from the C.Geckos considering NG and NG+ since you won't have much stats invested in Luck. The Blessed Great Sword +5 requires 2 x Pure Faintstone, so if you plan to have one, make sure you have 20 faith and get one from Urbain's female follower at NG so you'll have another Pure Faintstone and get the sword at NG+ not NG++ like myself. T.T
As a further note a character having 50 endurance with the Blessed Great Sword +5 can execute the R1 - R2 - R2 combo which swings a horizontal slash then a quick vertical ground blow (takes 2 steps before the blow) and finally a ground penetrating blow which can kill even a rock worm. Also during the last combo animation the player will be invulnerable to attacks, just like back stab.
Update: Got a pure Greystone from a Rock Worm on 23/04/2010 with that R1 - R2 - R2 combo final blow, actually it can be done as R2 - R2, I hit it that way and got one, and was shocked, don't know if damage has anything to do with drop rate, I have The Large Sword of Searching too but I didn't equip it when I got it, Luck: 10 and NG+.
Update: To wield [Blessed Great Sword +5] + [Gloom Armor Set] + [Viscous Compound Long Bow +5] + [Talisman] + [Adjudicator's Shield] you need 63 endurance to be able to dodge normally.
@arisdenis: A character with 40 END can execute the same exact combo that one with 50 END can. Damage does not affect drop rate. Also, it is recommended that parts of light armor be used to compensate for weight issues regarding rolling. Also, heavy armors have a stamina regen penalty, so the tradeoff of having greater defense is that you can lose a lot of mobility.
@Ojimaru: This is incredibly similar to my build, but a much higher SL from the look of it. I'd guess its around SL 170? Consider the Meat Cleaver as well since your STR and DEX are so high ^_^
