Cursed Hiltless Dex
rating: +1+x

Build summary A pre-build for those who may like to work towards using +5 sharp and tearing uchigatanas.
Recommended starting class(es) Knight, Royal, anything with minimum (7) luck as its not a necessary stat for this build

Recommended equipment

Ancient King's set or Chain mail/plate mail set, keep weight down so you can roll effectively
Hiltless+5
Adjudicator's Shield+5
Talisman of Beasts
Regenerator's Ring
Lava Bow/Sticky Compound Long Bow

In soul form, the regenerator's ring is not 100% necessary to offset the hp drain of hiltless as long as you have at least a +3 or higher adjudicator's shield, which is easy to get by your first new game plus.

Hiltless requires about 25-30 dex before it becomes a better pve weapon than say a dragon long sword +5 or a crescent falchion +5 or even a Magic Sword Makoto, but once you're in that range, cursed hiltless is clearly better. Alternative weapons like the falchion/long sword are easy to get for even novice players.

A sharp Uchigatana will also outpace the hiltless however it takes far longer to get a sharp uchigatana for a newer player.

Recommended spells/miracles

Cursed Weapon and Second chance
Poison Cloud+Death Cloud and Second Chance
Soul Arrow/Soul ray+Death Cloud and Second Chance
Warding+Soul Ray and Antidote/Cure +Heal

The only miracle I strongly advise using is second chance, its great for pve and pvp
I'd recommend the last spell build for just world 5, warding is pretty useful for black phantom giant depraved ones, given that you'll likely be wearing black leather in world 5, warding will allow you to survive their attacks if you make a mistake while second chance may not.

Gameplay tips and progression

The nice about a dex build is that you get highly effective ranged damage, and by dual wielding katanas you can have comparable dps to a strength build in pvp.

Dual handing the hiltless with the adjudicator's shield on your back is my recommendation until you can get a +5 sharp uchigatana and a +5 tearing uchigatana.

Single handing the hiltless or katana is also effective if you prefer a shield, as the moveset for katanas is very versatile, somewhat like lighter straight swords but with better reach.

The only new player progression recommendation i'd give is to raise your endurance to 20, then your strength to 18, next raise your dex to 13 so you can use a compound long bow and finally raise your vit to 20. After that, how you raise your stats is purely preference, but you should consider raising intelligence and faith to 18 and 16 fairly early so that you can use a good variety of magic and miracles early on, as they will make a lot of the early boss encounters significantly easier.
