Gameplay tips and progression

After dozens of thief/spellsword builds based on low armor and speed, I returned to the Temple Knight for a challenge. Skillful use of the +5 Blessed Mirdan Hammer is the key. It is not difficult to use one handed, block with shield of choice, and use the 1/2 second stun to equip two handed and R1 spam while locked on to finish any opponent, PvP or PvE. Can't lock because your opponent is rolling? R2 swing will knock him down.
Used with a Ring of Giant Strength or dropping a little armor, the Meat Cleaver option has the advantage of a light object being used for HP regeneration.
This is about 80 SL character at the end of NG. Farming for the faintstone is probably the easiest in the game with 2 or 3 geckos very convenient and three shamans all in a row dropping all three levels. Any two handed weapon user ought to have a +5 blessed something for the off hand.
Raising to SL 120, I'd push magic to 18 (TOB) and level up Faith/Strength/Dex/Vit relatively evenly. Faith is kind of useless except for scaling the Blessed weapons or the Meat Cleaver, and the key here is versatility. Bow damage is high, PvE versatility is high, and the high faith complements the low Magic through the TOB to offer some magic power when needed. Even a weak Homing Soul Arrow serves a key function in a PVP melee to stun and get the R1 spam in to finish with the Mirdan Hammer. I have heard a fair amount of derision about the Mirdan Hammer in PvP as unfair. It certainly is an ass-kicker used correctly. Two-handed it is very fast and often finishes the job in a 4 hit combo. IMO this advantage (a) rewards skilled melee players (it blocks poorly two-handed and mistakes can be punished) and (b) accounts for the disadvantages elsewhere in the build, such as the lack of any mid-range punch against quick spell casters.
A lot more fun to play than a spellsword with MAG 40 and a +5 Moon weapon! HSA, slice slice slice HSA slice slice slice. More balanced than a pure faith build so you can pull out a few surprises.
