RH1: Moon Uchigatana +5 Which weapons are equipped is your choice. For those who like dual weapons, use two Moon Uchigatanas. For those who like to use a shield, either of the above will work. The main difference is whether you want high HitRes (Steel Shield) or high Magic defense (Dark Silver Shield). Old King's Armor || Binded Set |
Recommended spells/miracles |
Possible Spell sets: - Soul Ray, Ignite, Homing Soul Arrow Miracles: - Second Chance Which spells you use are, again, based on playing style. This build gives 5 Spell Slots to work with. Experiment with different combinations. The sets I listed above were most effective for me. |
Gameplay tips and progression |
This build isn't easy to use, but when mastered, can be very good. This is because it's unpredictable. Magic is the focus stat because it increases both spell and melee power. You can open up with a long-range spell, and when your enemy dodges, quickly close the distance and surprise them with melee. The fact that this build isn't often used makes it difficult to fight, as opponents must constantly change gears to avoid your varying attacks. The trick is to never stick with one style for long; change between Magic and Melee to keep your opponent on the defense. You will most likely get a good hit when you surprise them, and if you are paying attention and use your Magic to interrupt their healing, eventually they will be worn down. |
Spellsword - SL 121
Most PvP builds cap at SL 120, and I couldn't spare points from any other category. It's possible to deduct 5 points from Magic and use those to fill out either Vitality or Endurance, but I don't recommend it. That little bit of extra damage from spells could be worth the loss of Endurance, but it depends…I've tried the build both ways, and I usually end up winning my fights with a well-placed Fireball, so I chose Magic ^_^

Heh ) I've ment, why it's not 25-30 ) I would rather say, for what? Maybe it's better to spend extra 5-10 points to vitality? Or 35 is armor requirements?
Oh…well, the minimum Endurnace requirements for equipment wuld be about 30, but generally, if you are using a build that will be fighting up close, you should have 40 Endurance for the maximum stamina bar. When you get somebody locked into a combo, you want to be able to keep it going. Likewise, if you get attacked, you want plenty of stamina to roll away and counter.
So, if you're doing any melee, you should always go for 40 Endurance. It makes a huge difference.

Ok this is my first char i am using this site as a guide and i loved this build so i am doing it…i am still noob so i made two mistakes i left my endurance and vitality to low (although that hasnt been causing any problems) byt anyway i would like to thank you, because beginning this build is helping a lot….sou lvl 50=black phantoms owned=7 in 7 =PPP l8r i will need help to get monks collar anyone available to help?(i'm pal player european version)
OK, next ) Dark SS lowers your magic attack. Does it woth it?
Yes, it does, and you definitely shouldn't be casting spells with it out. Just keep the DSS and your catalyst in your left hand so you'll never cast with it out. Problem solved. In PvP, you shouldn't really be using a shield anyway…it doesn't do you much good. Just two-hand or dual wield something. I had the option in because some still do use shields.

EDIT: changed some of the spell options. I've recently found Ignite to be very useful.
EDIT: 4/2/10 - Took Endurance from 35 to 30 and Vitality from 35 to 40. While I was completing the build, I found that 30 Endurance was all I needed to dual-wield Uchigatanas and dodge effectively.

Higher endurance = better armor
30 is enough for Old King Doran's armor, which is the best in terms of defense for PvP. All the better ones are heavy, and shouldn't be used.

Female armor suggestions?
I usually prefer the Binded Set for its good weight-to-strength ratio. Others may think differently, though; the majority of builds I have made were males, just because I like to match my sex ^_^

I always go the opposite of my own sex. I figure if I am going to spend about 60+ hours staring at the rear end of it better be a rear end I enjoy.
Lol!

thanks, too bad I can't get my gate to unlock even though I had PWWT guess next play lol ~_~
Great build i am using it currently
Here is an important question:
How do you start the build?
Do i after 1-1 go straight for the uchigatana at 4-1 then head for Black Smith Ed then grind for darkmoonstones at 4-2 via reaper and crystal lizard, or should i work the magic part at first by heading to the Tower of Latria to save Sage Freke?
I had trouble getting to a good point to farm souls from lost souls from buying shards of darkmoonstones, and healing items, which i had to use after every hit
Can you add in a quick start-up strategy on the page (or what you do get to this build)
Remember this: What you may know, may or may not be true; and what is true, you may or may not want to know.
I'll make a better guide soon, but here you go for now:
1) First, buy Flame Toss from Freke's Apprentice, then get Intelligence to 14 and upgrade your Magic as high as possible. Work through 4-1 to get the Crescent Falchion. Then use your strongest range attack to kill the Vanguard (between Soul Arrow and Flame Toss, Soul Arrow should work better). That will get you some souls early on. Walk around and pick up the Uchigatana for later. You can either try to beat the rest of the stage for souls or just come back later. I would come back later.
2) Go to 3-1 and beat that stage so you can rescue Freke. With Flame Toss, the Mind Flayers shouldn't give you any trouble; they stagger easily to Fire. Same with the Fool's Idol.
3) Once Freke is in the Nexus, use the Fool's Idol's soul to learn Soul Ray. Upgrade your Intelligence to 18; this will allow you to carry all 3 of your spells, Fire Toss for fire-weak enemies, Soul Arrow for other enemies and Soul Ray for more powerful ones.
4) Go to 1-2. Run through to the bridge and retrieve the Winged Spear. It's the second item on the first part of the bridge. Climb the first tower, kill the two archers and pick up the Wooden Catalyst. Then cross the second part of the bridge. Make sure to bait the Dragon ocne before you run so he will kill all the Dreglings. When you get to the end, take cover behind the large wagon and kill the archers. Then keep going. When you get to the end of the third part of the bridge, stay as far back as possible so the Blue-eyed Knight won't see you and KEEP MOVING. Take out the archers while making sure the ones on top don't surprise you. When they're dead, make sure your MP is full and take on the Knight. Enough casts of Flame Toss will break his guard, but try to get in a shot before he brings his shield up the first time. When he's dead, repeat the process with the other Knight. Now the Tower Knight. He's pretty easy as a Royal…just run to his right when the battle starts and up the stairs. If you don't stop running, he'll have no way to hit you. Kill all the archers on the right side and take one's place. When the Tower Knight draws back to throw a spear, shoot him. With good timing, he will die quickly.
5) Spend your souls upgrading your stats so that you can wield the Winged Spear (13 Strength, 12 Dexterity). Extras go to Magic, but if Magic hits 20, increase Vitality and Endurance some instead. Then you can work through 2-1 without much trouble.
That's all I have for now. I'll try to update later.

Farm for souls off the red-eyed knight, using soul arrow
i estimate 20k would be good, give extra vit and end for the beginning of the game
this would be the 1st thing i do, extra souls help out a lot at the start
Also unlock 4-2 as soon as possible, farming souls there is key to getting an early start, also if you replace the moon uchigatanas with crescent ones, you can farm darkmoon stones here
Remember this: What you may know, may or may not be true; and what is true, you may or may not want to know.
Moon weapons far overpower Crescent, and the MP regen isn't worth it. Just but Moonstone shards from the Once Royal Mistress in 3-1 and farm the Crystal Geckos for chunks and pures. It may take two playthroughs to max out a weapon, as C Geckoes are the only source of chunks of Moonstone.

By 45 Magic both Moon and Crescent weapons even out considerably, with Crescent taking the lead a little after 50 Magic.
However you're right in that at the stats for this build Moon weapons will be a little more powerful, possibly 20 damage more than their Crescent equivalent.
Another thing to consider is if you want to use cloak and clouds with warding for utility on a spellswordesque build, Crescent weapons will reveal your location with the regen aura.

That guy with the Kilij in all those Tournaments.
Ilkar, are you sure? Hmm…well, I guess it doesn't much matter, as it's a bad idea to take Magic past 50 at all. Diminishing returns and all. Thanks though, I did not know that, and there is very little I don't know about the Magic aspect of Demon's Souls ^_^
There is no hope for stealth with Mages. All the Magic power boosting equipment gives off a very noticeable aura, and taking any of it off makes it nearly impossible to kill people with Magic.

Truth for Uchis, not true for Kilijs. At 50 stat the're almost draw
I don't use Kilij's much, so I wouldn't know ^_^

My magic is 54 (Stupid, i know) and my moon uchi only does 7 more damage than its crescent counterpart. Moon is better, but with 50 magic, the mp regen would at least slow the depletion of mp consumption and may be the better option. Kilij's are far inferior in damage but are more durable and a little faster. good for PvE, but not PvP
Question about 5), why do you need to wield a Winged Spear? Wouldn't the crescent falchion+1 picked up in 4-1 do more damage? Or am I being a noob…. Thanks for the build guide, it looks awesome btw.
Yes, the Crescent Falchion +1 is usually your best bet for PvE early on…fighting the miners in world 2 is the exception. They are all extremely vulnerable to piercing type weapons, so even using an upgraded Winged Spear will be better than using the Crescent Falchion +1 as a Magic character ^_^

Although moon weapons do more damage, cresent weapons should be easier to obtain early in the game. As a result, a cresent uchi can be used early on then simply switched to the left hand weapon.
Miners in world 2 are also weak to magic, so Crescent Falchion will get you through the level easily, leaving the Winged Spear unnecessary.
Phosphorescent Pole upgraded to +5 will yield 1mp/sec that can be stacked with another Crescent weapon's mp regen + fragrant ring, and it has an S scaling damage with your magic stat. The other crescent weapon fragrant ring may be scrapped for pvp, but as a two-handed pole weapon, this may have some merit on this build. Also, I notice the build would need an extra 3 points into dexterity to wield the pole. Any thoughts?
i completely agree with RandomVictim the miners are just as weak to magic attacks(if not more) and I found the fat officials were easier to kill w/ crescent falchion +1. I even killed King Allant with my crescent falchion +1 around SL40(second arch-demon I killed). i also got magic sword "Makoto" and that helped me in 3-1 and the PvP arch demon in 3. then i got my Crescent falchion up to +5 for trophy now its rusting away with stockpile Thomas along with the now useless Makoto. =]
Makes sense…
…if you don’t think about it
