Gameplay tips and progression |
The strategies are simple: Use the moveset of your chosen blessed weapon to the best of your ability. Northern Regalia is in your arsenal to combat other faith builds or aggressive opponents that you can parry. Fighting another faith build will be incredibly easy if you can parry them or backstab them with NR because of the physical damage it puts out. You can riposte with the "smaller" blessed weapons, the most powerful of which will probably be the Crescent Axe (req's only 16 STR and 12 DEX) or the Claymore (20 STR), which will make up for the battles between white and black soul tendency (NR's damage is pathetic at neutral tendency). You can tear BBS users apart if you have the guts, your body, and the right equipment. With the DSS and magical dullness, your magical defense should be about 350. Wanna push it even higher so you can eat a BBS combo no problem? Equip the Rune Sword+5 as a right hand weapon for +60 magdef and you can try to parry them without much fear of death, light weapon or not. You won't be able to use it effectively, but you can switch your right hand weapon for the riposte, a strategy that pays off very well. This strategy will also pay off against faith builds, but with 350 magdef, their damage is already mitigated. Regen from a blessed weapon is a bit more useful in this scenario, but it's your call. |
Astrichthyes' Faith Build (SL 118-128)
Ok, you probably kne this was gonna happen. This build is in no way good. The larger weapons are way too slow to be of use in PvP. If the person your playing against isnt brain dead or retarted, then they should know to strafe around you and dodge when u start ur slooooowwwwww attack. The mag def is cool but i dont see too many people using attack spells online. If they do use magic against you, DODGE, dont try and take it like a man. You never know what that person is trying to do or what moves they r trying to set up. BBS's work wonders against Faith builds. if you see an orange aura around your enemy, then a red flag should go up. FAITH BUILD, DONT USE LIGHT WEAPON!!!!! I have dominated countless other faith builds, even the ever popular Ilkar Faith Build. Next, the Northern Regalia. That thing has the reputation of the Scraping Spear. I see it thrown into so many builds that it has just become a novelty weapon instead of one that people might actually want to use. Also, your vitality is too high. This looks more like a "Hyper mode build with high faith" rather than a "Faith build". The clouds are basically for noobs and for those without skill. dosent take much to hide in a narrow hallway and cast it on unsuspecting players. And lastly, the parrying is basically useless. I find that the online mode lags far too much to even attempt such a move. There, i thinkthats about all that needs to be said. (-) for extreme failure. Sry

Okay, so i thought i might as well comment: I discussed this build further with DemonFyre and we have mended some of the misunderstandings above. Regardless, I will post my rebuttal:
-The large weapons are competitive, especially in the right hands. Both great weapons have specific movesets that are difficult to use, but incredibly effective (most notably, the rolling ground stab with the great axe and the grand slam swing with the great sword).
-I see attack spells used online all the time, but your magdef is designed more for combatting the damage from magical weapons. You don't just stand there and take the hit, it is there to parry powerfully enchanted weapons without worrying much about dying. You can eat a BBS combo, but by no means should you do that on purpose. Dodge accordingly and you should have no problem taking someone like a BBS user down.
-The BBS is useless against this build with the right equipment because their damage is primarily magical. Ilkar's faith build is good, but it is not designed with an alternative means of damage and is most often used with the Adjudicator's shield and/or Regenerator's Ring for HP regen. His faith build could easily have the same magdef as mine, but there is one thing that gives you an advantage: his only weapons are blessed weapons whose damage is ~60-75% magical.
-Northern Regalia is listed because it has low stat reqs and more physical damage than even blessed great weapons. Physical damage scales much higher in critical strikes (backstabs/ripostes) than magical, which is why it is so effective for taking other faith builds or vitality builds down. I see NR used everywhere, but the Scraping spear is far more sinister in its reputation. NR has similar attack rating to your blessed weapons, so I don't see why it would be frowned upon at this SL.
-Vitality is just above the PvP standard of 40 for melee builds. It is advantageous to have it at 45, but you can take 5 from it and add it to FTH if your heart so desires. I personally don't recommend altering the stats unless you wish to raise the SL. VIT shouldn't exceed 50, nor should FTH if you are to stay within the active PvP range.
-Use clouds if you want, I find warding is far more effective since your opponent will almost always deal more physical damage than magical anyway. It is especially useful against physical builds since they will be your main threat.
-Parrying is difficult, but I do it all the time (sometimes multiple times per battle). A bad internet connection is the only reason you wouldn't be able to parry someone. Should you decide not to use parries, to each his own. I use them to take vitality and faith builds down because the damage is extremely high and isn't affected by regen or heals between strikes.
-The fact that I win over 75% of my battles should be an indicator that this build is definitely not an "extreme failure". If doubt remains, I'd be happy to battle someone to prove it.
I have no intention of fighting anyone until I have a build that i can fully trust. Maybe someday. +1

priest and TK for fth builds, not a magic based character fucks up your build in the long run
Okay, so what i had here was me saying the priest wasn't a viable option. It is… if all you want to use is blessed weapons. It actually wastes a point in luck compared to the TK, Knight, and royal if you want to use NR, but think about it this way:
Blessed weapons only (AR ~350-550, ~60-75% magical damage)
18 Str
8 dex
8 mag
8 luck
My version (AR ~540 for BOTH weapons, NR deals 50% physical damage)
20 str
14 dex
12 mag
7 luck
the SL difference: 9
NR: 270mag/270phys
Blessed Claymore: ~300mag/150phys
NR - Claymore = -30mag/ +120phys —> 90/9 = +10 AR per point (well worth it in my book)
Physical damage scales better than magical damage in ripostes/BS's as well, which is what you would probably be using your backup for. Even if you raise strength to 26 to riposte with the great weapons, the output won't be as high as with NR except against warding (even so, the difference in damage is miniscule). THAT is the main advantage of this build over other faith builds: similar damage with blessed weapons, but far less vulnerable to damage mitigation.
Seems you fellas(Demonfrye and Asto) have some unfinished businwax to take care of.
You guys ever dueled it out in DS?
I would love to see that.
Let the betting begin!!
Haha, very funny :P We actually worked it out and came to an agreement.
Hey guys!
You should head on over to the forums. This is strictly for archiving threads. Thanks!

Almost identical to the faith builds posted before. And I dont know what DemonFyre was saying in the first post. big weapons are slow? Yeah but they reach long and have phantom range and do great damage. Otherwise DBS would be useless and you would see none in pvp. i will not even rebuke the rest of the comment, he has no idea about anything in general.
Astrichthyes i can see the small changes that you have made to the build, but they are too minimal to be noticed.
