Gameplay tips and progression

As I said before, you need to practice using the Spear/Sword combo. I would go throughout World 1-1 until you feel comfortable with the fact that you need to dodge more often than block. The thrusting aspect of the Spear can help if you either don't have room to move or are pressed for the final attack. The Sword acts as a good back up because of it's length and power. If the Claymore proves too slow for you, you could switch to a faster one hand weapon. The Great Sword can be used to smack your enemy away which gives you time to heal or re-cast Second-Chance.

The Plated Armor is lightweight and offers fairly good protection. You will most likely need the Ring of Great Strength to roll but that really won't be that much of a problem. The Eternal Warrior's Ring helps by rapidly increasing your Stamina recovery rate. The Thief's Ring will help you sneak past certain enemies that you may not want to fight or want to sneak up on. God's Wrath is mainly for clearing out the Crystal Lizards in 2-2, or for when you want to ambush enemies.

Do the game how you want to. Always get your Vitality/Endurance to comfortable levels before you begin working on your Strength and Dexterity.
