Well this is a parrying and back stabbing build, dodge, dodge, dodge and dodge more… |
Shadow
dude i have pretty much this exact build. only difference is i use the insanity catalyst and tthe lava bow. anywho, putting the two daggers together was well worth it and once you get the timing on the riposte this is absolutely nuts. quick question though. how did you go about killing bosses like old hero and maneater? its like no matter how much i dodge with a build like this some bosses seem impossible. its the same way in PvP. can you riposte DBS or meatcleaver? cause man i feel silly trying to sometimes…

(sorry for the wall of text here)
It is possible against any weapon in the game. The thing you need to know first, are the basics on how each weapon fights and the best way to riposte them.
Here is a list of all the weapons that offer a parry:
1.) Shields- they parry horizontally
2.) curved swords- they parry by swinging the sword in multiple circles by flicking their wrist in different ways
3.) katanas- they also parry horizontally but with a smaller range
4.) daggers- they have an upwards parry that starts from mid chest and goes to the upper left
5.) fist- the most useless since it has absolutely no range and requires you to be very close to your enemy.
Next, we need to separate the fighting styles of the mainly used weapons.
1.) in order to block a straight sword, you should use a shield or a curved sword. try and time the parry within a .003 sec time frame before the attack connects. if your opponent tries a thrusting move, then you want to strafe a little to the left or right and hit the side of the weapon with your parry.
2.) large swords are a bit different. they usually have the same fighting style as straight swords but are slower which gives you more time in order to parry them. primarily use shields
3.) extremely large swords require perfect timing. Since their attacks are usually overhead of horizontal, it diminishes the types of parrying weapons that you can use. always use a shield or the weapon will cut through you and you will suffer some massive damage. time the parry to where the attack is a little over halfway to hitting you. if the timing is right, you should have no problem.
4.) to parry a spear is relatively easy. use a shield and do the same thing you did if your opponent tries to thrust you. strafe a bit to the side and catch the weak area of the spear.
5.) katanas/curved swords are a bit harder to parry. a shield is too slow to match the speed of these weapons so your better off using a dagger or a curved sword. if its an over hand attack, then use the dagger, which parries upwards. other than that, time the strike and knock the weapon aside with the curved sword.
6.) axes are something entirely different. since most people using the running sweep/ground slam, it is hard to parry them. you want to coax them into using an attack that can be parried. like the diagonal slash or an over hand strike. the same with the extra large sword, just time it right and you will parry them every time.
As for your initial question, it is very easy to parry the DBS, Meat Cleaver, Bramd, N. Regalia, and the other popular PvP weapons. just watch your timing and take it slow. once you learn how, you will parry your foe every time.
P.S. try and avoid the "spastic parrying" in which you rapidly hit the L2 button which can allow your foe to get behind you and get in an easy backstab.
P.S.S. I really like medieval weaponry, which is how i know all about this stuff.

U just can't grat axe i think…
Demonfrye,
I like this build.
Dex at 77 is powerful when it comes to the fatal upgrade. There's a difference definitely in damage at 77 versus at 50 dex.
Even using fatal to poke here and there, while not the best damage by any means, actually has some decent damage at 77, while at 50 it does nada!:)
The one thing I just wanted to say is you can't parry a Great Axe. However, you can parry axes(Guillotine being the other main Axe used in PVP)
Meat Clever I don't believe you can, but Dragon bone you can.
You're also spot on in terms of how to parry. I tend to parry alot usng shields and you are exactly right about how to use it in a horizontal manner.
I tend to not run, but while parrying, be in slight motion while pressing the L2.
It seems to be good as a blind parry method, running up to opponent, while locked on, than slowing down and pressing L2 when ready to parry.
+1 for me.
