Gameplay tips and progression |
I would play the journey to the Nexus to gain that extra it of souls and the Grey Demon soul doesn't come in wrong. After beating the journey to the Nexus I would tackle 1-1 and equip the Old Raggedy Set once you find it. After beating 1-1. Buy Flame Toss (most enemies are weak to fire and it has a stagger effect), after buying Flame Toss tackle 4-1 to recieve the Crescent Falchion + 1 (this will be your weapon from now on until you can get Insanity Catalyst). After beating 4-1, go to 3-1 and kill Fools Idol, after defeating her use her souls to learn Soul Ray (This will be your main source of damage in PvE and PvP until you can get FireStorm). After beating 3-1, go to 2-1 then 2-2 after getting Red Hot Demon Soul from Flamelurker not forgetting to pick up the Kris Blade before the lift down to Armour Spider, go tackle the rest of World 3, after you have killed Old Monk, make your Silver Catalyst into an Insanity Catalyst, by this time you should have 40 Will/Intelligence, 16 Faith and atleast 20-30 Magic. Once you have achieved all this keep your distance from the enemies and cast Soul Ray once you are able to lock-on to the enemy, Soul Ray should kill most enemies in 1 hit if not just roll back and cast again until it dies. |
Hyper-Mage
Any comments would be nice :)
Unfortunately, the term you used Firestorm for really put me off before I got started really analyzing everything that you put down…And I must say, this build is laughable at best, and downright hilarious at worst.
The thing you need to realize is that having 99 Magic is nowhere near as effective as you might think…With the points you threw haphazardly to make it seem like you were doing more damage, i could use a different "catalyst", pump half of those points into Faith, and I would actually be dealing more damage than you ever could with your spells, have twice as much MP, a free equipment slot, and even a few more slots to put another powerful AOE spell into, say…God's Wrath? Also, with that free Yellow Demon's Soul that you would use to make the over-rated ICat, I could use it to get the PvP-acceptable Homing Soul Arrow. In fact, the Insanity Catalyst is used for only one real reason: Light Weapon. Of course, this wouldn't apply if you weren't recklessly throwing points into your Magic stat…Until Magic and Faith both hit 40, the ICat will do more damage at any level. After that point, a Magic/Faith hybrid will take control, given the Talisman of Beasts.
Second, you'll actually be better off if you have your ToB in your left hand, because you can use the Morion/Kris Blade to have some kind of melee if they get too close.
I won't mark you down, but I suggest changing your equipment lists to such:
Vitality 10
Will/Intelligence 40
Endurance 20
Strength **
Dexterity 14
Magic 50
Faith 50
Luck **
Armour:
Monk's Head Wrappings (Coronet is only really useful for low level)
Old Raggedy Set without hat(Female)
Venerable Sage's Set without hood (Male)
___
Weapons:
Left hand 1 - Talisman of Beasts
Left Hand 2 - Magic Sword "Makoto" (Not to fight with, just for getting into Hyper Mode easier)
Right Hand 1 - Morion Blade
Right Hand 2 - Kris Blade (When Second Chance Cracks)
___
Rings: Clever Rat's ring,Ring of Magical Sharpness
___
Spells:
Soul Ray (high damage and low MP cost)
Homing Soul Arrow (Still Great on bosses, longer range, and more PvP acceptable)
Warding (When Second Chance is cracked)
___
Miracles:
Second Chance
God's Wrath(More accurate than Firestorm, but less damaging, useful for knockback/being jumped)
You'll find that my improvements will make you far deadlier.
This build wasn't intended to be PvP, it was intended to be PvE for helping people get throuh the game, with the high magic you can basically 1HKO almost everything with Soul Ray and 1HKO most/all bosses if you do it correctly, this has been tested by me and proven to be correct, I dealt over 4000 damage with hyper-mode FireStorm on False King Allant :)
Until the servers are shut down, a build needs to be able to hold its own in PvP as well as PvE…If you wanted it to be purely PvE, you should mention them to suicide in the nexus to make sure they stay in soul form. Anyways, hyper mode is not exactly a build for new players, since it requires a lot of skill to survive with such drastically low health, even if you do kill everything quickly. In my honest opinion, a Northern Regalia with DSS build is best for new players, because it allows someone to pump as many points into vitality as possible, due to the fact that NR doesn't scale with stats, and neither does Demon/Soulbrandt.
I agree with Advarious. The concept of the build is good, however you are not at all durable and will die in one hit from anything in NG+. One other thing is that the diminishing returns after you hardcap at 50 are so small that you might as well make it a pushed ToB. That gives you twice the MP to throw around so you aren't spicing constantly and you don't lose a significant amount of power overall. Even for PvE, I don't recommend less than 30 vitality because you will get one-shotted a lot. One last thing worth mentioning: the epee rapier is not useful compared to the crescent estoc because you want some mp regen to keep those spells casting and you can already deal significant fire damage with any of the fire spells at your disposal: ignite, firespray, firestorm, and fireball. I'm not personally a fan of glass cannon mages, primarily because in PvP (which will happen when you're co-oping), all someone needs to do is firespray you into second chance to destroy your entire strategy. You can dodge around a bit, but you will have to wait 20 seconds for makoto to get you back down to hypermode, and by then, you will already be dead. The best beginner build IMO is probably a faith build because of the massive regen or a standard mage with 50mag, 50vit, and 40int. NR-vit works well too. Glass cannons are recommended only for players that have a good grasp of the game because they will die constantly and become frustrated. One final note: firestorm is easily interrupted. If you sneak up behind Allant and cast homing soul arrow, you will be dealing over 2000 damage per cast and, if you can cast with the correct timing, you can kill him before he can even turn around because he will essentially be stunlocked. sorry, this does net a -1 from me because there are much smarter ways of doing this :(
