Magic
This build really works best when used in conjunction with the Morion Blade and Clever Rat’s Ring. You can start fights with the Kris Blade and Talisman, throw some spells, then switch to your chosen shield and Morion Blade to finish the fight up close. If your health drops below 30%, the ring and sword will boost your damage by 140%. This makes your melee damage that much more deadly, but if you trade your shield for your talisman, you can cast spells significantly more powerful than with the Kris Blade. Also, if you want to mix things up, you can fight with the Demonbrandt or Soulbrandt depending on your CharacterTendency. Placement between right and left hand is very important; by keeping your casting weapon in your left hand you can switch it with the Dark Silver Shield +5 at ideal times to make sure you have a strong magical defense when you need it while never worrying about magical damage reduction. I'll be the first to admit that the Morion Blade is not the most powerful weapon, so using it with a shield may not be attractive. A lot of people prefer to keep it as an offhand, not to fight with but to simply take advantage of Hyper Mode. This really comes through when holding your heavy hitters with both hands. Another option is the Adjudicator’s Shield +5 for those that would prefer a little more survivability, maybe in conjunction with a Regenerator’s Ring. -= ARMOR =- Early in the game, you are going to want to replace all of your Wizard Clothing armor set except for the Silver Coronet. Leather Armor is a good, easily obtainable choice. Later on, depending on how you choose to distribute your points, Ancient Kings armor has better defense and can still leave your equip weight under half the maximum. Finally, if you can get it, the Monk’s Head Collar can be a powerful (albeit silly looking) addition. -= RINGS =- I’m not going to tell you that one set of rings is going to always be than another. Some are obvious and should always be kept on hand, others are more situational. Here are some options I would suggest you keep in mind for both PVE and PVP.

Recommended spells/miracles |
-= SPELLS =- Spells are totally situational. At 30 intelligence, you will have 5 spell slots, so mix and match. A few notes on spells:
-= MIRACLES =- Second Chance is the only miracle I use. Some people look down on it as kind of a noob move, but when you are playing a build so often dependent on keeping your health low, having a safeguard in place isn't a bad idea. |
Gameplay tips and progression |
This class is not for everyone. Demon's Souls is not an easy game, and this build is not an easy one to master. Always remember that, when playing a Spellsword, that's "Spell" first and "Sword" second. This applies more to PVP than anything. If you are going for a Hyper Mode kill, keep your distance. NEVER have equipment that keeps you from rolling smoothly. But if you have the Morion Blade as your main hand and your talisman in your off hand, Clever Rat's Ring equipped and health below 30%, do not forget that melee is a constant option. Forums love to hate on the Morion Blade, but I couldn't count how many times a powered up melee strike at just the right moment has finished a fight in my favor. Good luck, fellow Demon Hunters. I hope that some of you use and enjoy this build, I put a lot of work and testing into it. Maybe one of these days I'll see your phantom. Keep an eye out for "Faust". |
