Right- Swap between the two right hand equipped Weapons/Shields
Select- This will allow you to write or rate messages left by other players, or rate players after successful co-op sessions
Start- Opens the game menu – this does not pause the game. Things can still attack you, and you can still move. (There is no pause in this game)
X: Activation Button / Hold for emotes palette / Hold and shake controller in direction from palette to do emote
Square: Use Consumable Item
Circle: Hold while running to Sprint (Uses stamina)
- If you Sprint towards a target and hit an attack while sprinting, you will do a running attack. This does more damage and is easier to hit if you lock on to the enemy with R3.
- If you just tap Circle, you will hop backwards. Useful to dodge.
- If you hold a direction and tap Circle, you will roll in that direction.
- When falling from height, if you hit Circle (or Circle and hold a direction) right when you land, you will backstep/roll and recover immediately without the momentary stun on landing hard.
- Be careful when rolling in the Nexus for no apparent reason. Especially when you roll while landing on an npc it will deal a small amount of damage to him. Hurting your spell-merchant is no good idea.
Triangle: Toggles holding current Right Handed weapon with two hands (Works on ANY WEAPON, including daggers or even shields). Gives you a 1.5x Strength increase but makes blocking stamina damage worse, 1.5X strength can be used to utilize weapons requiring high strength when you are a few points shy of one-handed proficiency.
R1: Standard Attack with Right hand or use magic/miracle (depending on equipment in hand)
R2: Power Attack with Right Hand
R3: Target Lock/Unlock – You can flick the R stick in a direction towards an enemy to change targets without unlocking
L1: Standard Attack with Left hand Weapon, or use magic/miracle (depending on equipment in hand).
- Hold L1 to Block with Left Hand Shield or Weapon
L2: Parry. Has to be timed just right or you are open to attack. If successful, you can do a highly damaging counter. If the equipped item is not a shield or a parrying-enabled weapon like a dagger, you will instead do a power attack.
Parry then R1: Riposte. A severely damaging critical strike delivered to the front of an enemy after thrown off balance by a successful parry.
Draw Bow then L1: Sniper Mode. Enters a first-person zoom to accurately aim arrows at long range; not usable with crossbows.
Sniper Mode then D-pad: Adjusts amount of zoom, in/out. Useful for long range shooting, or to hunt Crystal Geckos.
C then R1: Rushing attack, after a backstep. Usually has high power and some stun.
C+Direction then R1: Rolling attack, done at end of roll. Usually a wide sweeping attack and comes out faster than normal R1 attack.
Forward+R1: Power Push. Use this up close to an enemy to briefly stun them. You can even push enemies off ledges.
Sprint+R1: Sprinting attack. Usually has high power and some stun.
You can perform a highly damaging backstab by moving close behind an enemy and pressing R1. The damage of this backstab is dependant on the weapon type (daggers seem to have a high multiplier). There also seems to be a narrower arc for a successful backstab for inappropriate weapons.
