New Forums Are Open

Old forums will remain online and you may post (but not create new threads) until Monday, May 24th at 5:00PM EDT. After the old forums will be set to archive mode and you can no longer post.

Well, I have been working on this for quite a while now, and between real life and work it did not progress as fast as I had hoped.

As many of you are aware the forums here on Wikidot leave a lot to be … desired. Wikidot will be the first one to tell you that they are not designed, nor intended, to host forums. So, I have opened a new location where we can have a fully featured (and for most of you familiar) messaging board. Registration is quick and painless.

The moderators of the forums and I have been testing things out and tweaking issues that we find. However, we are sure there will be some things we have missed. Please let us know of any issues you encounter, and we will address them as soon as possible.

Make sure you read the rules from the start, because you will be held accountable for your actions. Ignorance is no excuse. The rules are posted at the top of every single forum.

Thanks, and enjoy.

http://forums.demonssouls.info

Right, your character can have any character tendency and be summoned as the boss. Also, you can be summoned when using the Black Eye Stone, Blue Eye Stone, or Red Eye Stone, but the Blue and Red are more reliable than the Black.

If you are summoned as the boss, your character tendency WILL NOT shift toward Black if the Host player gets killed by regular enemies (or the Makoto Sword) before reaching the boss area. However, if you actually kill the Host, your character tendency WILL shift toward Black. You do have to be within the Host's Soul Level range, but the Host does not have to be in body form for you to be summoned as the boss (I've been on both sides of that).

If you did not intend to be summoned as the boss, you can leave using the White Eye Stone with no penalty. Just do it before the Host enters the fog.

If you're summoned as the boss, and you already have a Monk's Head Collar (or several hundred), don't equip one during the fight, because you'll be wearing one by default, and two identical items won't stack. Wear either a Silver Coronet for more Magic points, or something protective. You'll get the benefit of two different head items.

Bring various weapons and armor to the fight, and listen to the Host battle the enemies on his way up the stairs. Pay attention to whether the Host kills the Bugs and Octopus Guards with melee or spells, and adjust your equipment, accordingly. If he uses Soul Light/Ray, have your Dark Silver Shield ready. If he uses fire-based spells, equip your flame defenses.

Stand away from the doorway, in order to avoid cloud spells or Rage Of God cast through the fog by the Host; and don't activate any noisy defensive spells that give away your position, until after the Host has entered the fog.

Just one comment about the collar. I was using it because it looks so cool, in 1-3 in the area where you have to go around the corner to face a red-eyed knight - the last one before you get to the area where the primeval demon spawns and where it's kind of a blind corner for him. I was waiting for him to walk to where I was and then turn and walk back so I could uh, backstab him. Well, the little devil spotted my headgear standing up above the wall and he came running for me. Surprised the heck out of me.

If you mean your character tendency will go toward black if you get it, most likely this is true. In order to get it you have to be picked by the Old Monk to invade as a Black Phantom (either by using a Blue eye stone or Black eye stone anywhere in Latria) to fight as the Archdemon. Now, I read that if the host dies you get it and your CT goes down. I'm not sure that this is the case. My thoughts are that you actually have to kill the player, since my CT didn't go down when the player died before getting to play against me. I still got the collar.

If you mean you have to have a low - blackish character tendency to get the collar, then no, you don't. Just be online, in soul form, place a blue or black stone and you have a chance of getting called. I got called by accident, because I thought it was just the black stone and wanted to be a Blue Phantom to help someone at the Fool's Idol boss. Surprise, I got summoned to be Old Monk.

What "good" armour depends on your personal standpoint and playstyle. Personally, I like to be able to do fast rolls, which I know the priest cannot do in their starting armour having started a character as a priest. They do the turtle on it's back roll. Also, you will find, the differances in "stronger" armour vs "weaker" armour is so very minor in practice that you will probably just end up using a lighter set anyways just to be able to roll fast, which is probably the most important thing in this game is the ability to roll out of the way of an attack.

Also you will find "heavy" armours, such as gloom, brushwood, dark silver, etc, etc, all have a stam penalty to them. Meaning your stamina refills slower than with armours like black leather and other light armours. This isn't that much of a differance in PvE, but, in PvP, getting that full guage of stamina faster than your opponent means a whole lot.

I started again recently as a priest. How come all the armour I find, or can buy, at the beginning is worse than the gear I'm already wearing?
I'm still running around in my chain-mail with no changes at all. I found the Brushwood set, but cannot wear most of it.
Is this because of my character beginning stats, or am i supposed to be mixing and matching various bits of armour together to make a better combination.

The easiest way to see this variation is to look at the Knight's class page (http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/knight). The game case has the male fluted armor, while that's the female version.

If I could, I'd ask the developers to work on making heavy armor more viable. The easiest thing to do would be to increase their damage reduction. I just feel like heavy armor isn't worth the mobility penalty, which is a shame because I like Yurt's Gloom set. Additionally I'd probably just lump the whole set into one item (instead of individual pieces) and make them upgradable. There's a lot of depth that can be put into weapon choice, and even some in shield choice. Armor choice just seems lacking.
