New Forums Are Open

Old forums will remain online and you may post (but not create new threads) until Monday, May 24th at 5:00PM EDT. After the old forums will be set to archive mode and you can no longer post.

Well, I have been working on this for quite a while now, and between real life and work it did not progress as fast as I had hoped.

As many of you are aware the forums here on Wikidot leave a lot to be … desired. Wikidot will be the first one to tell you that they are not designed, nor intended, to host forums. So, I have opened a new location where we can have a fully featured (and for most of you familiar) messaging board. Registration is quick and painless.

The moderators of the forums and I have been testing things out and tweaking issues that we find. However, we are sure there will be some things we have missed. Please let us know of any issues you encounter, and we will address them as soon as possible.

Make sure you read the rules from the start, because you will be held accountable for your actions. Ignorance is no excuse. The rules are posted at the top of every single forum.

Thanks, and enjoy.

http://forums.demonssouls.info

I don't know the exact details of the number crunching, but there's a PVP guide written by EWGF that has a small section comparing LW to CW. It gives a really good qualitative run down LW and CW. The only thing it lacks is some insane n dimesnional spread sheet comparing the all the different permutations between stats and weapons. What I got out of the guide and from this thread is that LW is better if you have any kind of magic scaling build. CW is better if your damage scales with physical stats and your magical stat requirements are low enough that you can use a cracked ToB.

just a quick question, fits in this category

i know that LW scales with Mag, how much Mag should someone using LW have for it to be better than CW? (or i am i wrong)

Lol

ohhh yea mashing the old R1 button. Its skillful when they kill you with it.
Your the noob when you kill them.
I had a dude apologize to me once. We had a duel and it went for a little while. The then attacked me with his pole weapon and texted me "Sorry for pole noobing you"
So in that statement he realized he couldn't beat me with out the stun lock.

I know i can already see the posts coming "but you can parry it" I get it. But when someone is bearing down on you with a curse weapon pole weapon i dont want to miss on the parry and get a full stamina bar of pole in the face because it STUN LOCKS.

You could Dual wield it and block attacks with it if 0 durability is what you want, or get attacked by a scraping spear. I think what you may mean is using a cracked catalyst, which means you do not meet the required stats to use it, There is a good explanation of it here: http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/forum/t-237747/no-broken-bonus-for-cursed-weapon

I have a new question for this thread about the Banish Miracle.

I am curious whether or not your character tendency moves towards white if you banish a BP, like you do when you kill a BP. That would be my only reason for carrying the banish miracle as most of the time a black phantom invading isn't terrible to deal with.

I will have to agree with most people on this thread that the miracle is not broken or cheap. If the person wants to take the risk to cast this miracle, as you need to be close to the BP for it to work, I say power to them if they succeed!

Some people really like to invade to ruin someone else's day on their world by stealing their body. There are also people that like to sit back and wait for an invading BP to ruin THEIR day by banishing them.

Additionally don't BPs have one advantage over those they invade? They can utilize the environment to their advantage as monsters will not attack them ( the exception I know currently is the dragons in world 1). I've seen many videos where the BP was outnumbered because of blue phantoms and the BP ran off into the monsters to heal. The little distraction that monsters provide can give any decent player an invaluable advantage.

That just my opinion anyways =)

Just picked up the Hero Demon's Soul. With a little grinding I could create a Large Sword of Searching, but Second Chance seems to be mandatory for most players. I'm using a mostly magic based character on my first play through, but the sword just seems soooo tempting. Am I just being greedy, and should wait for my NG+ to work on a sword of searching? Thoughts?

Most BBS builds take magic to higher lvls and also remember that BBS' magic damage scales with luck. People take high magic to greatly assist with Light Weapon on the BBS. Cursed Weapon is primarily used with a "cracked" ToB on Dex/Str builds.

So the short question is which is better?

I assume it depends on whether your character is built for physical damage or magical damage. I'm trying to get a BBS build together and I'm having a hard time figuring out which of the two spells I should get since I haven't had any experience with either of them. Right now my damage stats are

Str: 18 (I'm going to level this down and stick with DSS) 22 (For PFS once I grab it)
Dex: 18
Mag: 18
Will: 18

I apologize for not having my complete build, but I don't remember everything off the top of my head at the moment. Any feedback related to my build, or any general comments bout LW vs. CW would be greatly appreciated. : ) Thanks in advance.

If you hit an enemy/boss with a single spout of flame from FS, God's Wrath will do about the same if magic is same as faith. Multiple spouts of flame hits from FS, FS will blow God's Wrath away for sure. Atleast, that is what I noticed on bosses and enemies that don't get knockbacks/knockdowns, like the Giant Goblins.

I don't believe God's Wrath damage gets even in the same ballpark as Firestorm.

Anyways, the original question was about farming gecko's nest. I have used both spells, and firestorm misses between 1/3 and 1/2 of the geckos, due to not going through obsticles (the mine carts) or over elevations. In NG+ though, with low Faith it will take at least 2 casts to kill them, which means you need to keep OLD SPICE ready. They dissapear if you eat 2 fresh spices.

Firestorm, you are going to want 2nd chance if you are using BBS (im not an expert but im sure most builds use it)
here is a list of MY pros and cons

Fireball:
Pros- ranged, decent damage, large hit area, fire damage, good for stopping a players charge, 2 slots
Con- weakest of the 3, slow
Firestorm:
Pros- a lot of damage, mid-close range, can be used after a backstab, can stop a players charge if you are pro
Cons- 3 slots, easily predictable, leaves you wide open for an attack, sometimes enemies fly at you and deal damage to you

God's Wrath(i am not very familiar with but here is what i know):
Pros- 2 slots, larger hit range than FS, deals the same amount of damage as FS, used after a backstab
Cons- need 4 slots to use with 2nd chance, leaves you open before the attack, VERY slow, scales with faith stat (bad for mages)

I use firestorm so it is just a personal preference
