No.
Cloudstone shield upgrades should be avoided like an enraged Old King Doran.
If you want good fire and magic res, use the DSS.

"heavy weapons like moonlight sword"

What? It only weighs like 2 or 3 lbs..

But seriously, I've never encountered another player in pvp (and only ONCE in pve) using moonlight or blind (waaaaaaaaaaay low damage). Your bigger concern will be against DBS, Large Hammer class weapons (axes),and miridan hammers. A Knight shield will fall to all of these, though it's good for most everything else. Steel Shield is likely your best option overall, even though it still may get broken by a few blunt weapons (just be careful), and PFS surely takes too much str to weild. I'd say just fip a coin, lol, they are both good options.

I used to ALWAYS use the PFS until I realised it kept ruining my builds. I think "oh, 4 more points in str isn't too bad…and why not 6 more for dex to use the lava bow? And I should totally raise my faith for the Meat Cleaver…" etc, etc. It just comes down to, you really shouldn't spare unneeded points just to try and weild something if the rest of your build won't benefit from it, and raising str for the sole purpose of carrying a shield is usually one of those "unneeded" moments if all of your damage comes from dex.

Depends on the lvls u plan to go.

If you go soul lvl 120, plus 5 points in str is not a big deal however at soul lvl 60 5 points is a huge difference.

Anyway i recommend the steel shield. Kite is a small light shield, good to use with heavy weapons like moonlight sword, DBC.
Steel shield is the winner for the phalanx strategy, fire damage is best avoided, especially in PVP. But please keep a off hand weapon to use not only spears. Even Spartans had a short sword.

Also plan ahead. Your shield is a good defensive wall but a moonlight sword, blind or enchanted weapon will still damage you. Use it but don't depend on it. Spears are also good when 2h.

Also get something to deal with enemies shields. Your spear wont break a good guard.

I always forget Rapiers can be used behind shields. Mainly cause I don't use them and I find their moveset boring.

Agreed. Parrying is a major plus. Especially when paired with a fatal estoc or winged spear :) I think the shield is strong enough in hit res to pull off a phalanx as well. Phalanx + Parrying= Domination in PvE

@ Anorack: I have used the tower shield before. I do like it, however for this build i want to focus my points on dexterity to make a spear a viable option. Plus it's wieght… Ughh. Anyway, thanks for the help fellas. I think I'm goin with the knight's shield. It's light wieght, low strength requirements and ability to parry seem to outwiegh the other shields strengths.

For a phalanx build/scraper, honestly I think that Tower Shield is the best, but, it does cost you a lot of points in strength, and it is heavy.
But, in your case, I'd go with a Steel Shield. It's light, good hit res and requires 4 less strength than PFS.

In my personal opinion, the 20% more fire cut from PFS isn't worth the 2 more weight and 4 more required strength. Your main concern is the 30% magic cut on all three.

But, if you are thinking on using a Fatal Winged Spear, then a Knight's Shield is the way to go.

Well, I always prefer the ability to parry so i would go with either the Knight's Shield or Dark Silver Shield. You wont be as much of a turtle, but most advanced players dont like to turtle anyway and so the parry over a shield bash is a welcome change.

I'm making a dexterity based phalanx character. Should I use

Knight's Shield+10 : Only needs 16 strength, ability to parry, and 78 hit res (not bad)

Steel Shield+10: Needs 18 strength, 82 hit res, rather light for it's defense

PFS+10: 82 hit res, 90% fire cut, however it requires 22 strength. I'd rather put points towards Dex…

What do you guys think?
