I hate this level this is probably the only level I hate in the game. Even the boss shoots AIDS balls at you and you can barely move.
Not to mention the giant ass-kicking goblins who can run like Usain Bolt in the swamp and whack you around like a tennis ball? Or Meat Cleaver chick, slayer of the uneducated? Hehe.

LOL I like that. I've just been calling her "Meat Girl," but your title is much more appropriate.
When I killed my first giant ass-kicking goblin I was like "Woohoo!" and then "What the f! 250 souls!? Screw you!" It's like all the game developers were laughing and pointing at me with theirs fingers. So life is not fair, why should games be?
My strategy was to do all of worlds 2, 3 and 4 and most of 1 first, so that by the time I got to 5 I was overleveled for it and it went by as fast as possible ;)
I did go back once to get the Large Sword of Moonlight and the suckerstone ore, but overall I spent as little time here as possible.
I just put on the black leather set and thiefs ring and carry some lotus with me, run around to the left for the entire first part of the level until you're up on the platform with the mosquitos(shoot them with a bow before they're close enough to see you), you won't even have to deal with the first set of big goblins. The second set of big goblins can be picked off with arrows(stay back so far that all you can see is their breath and wait until they're back in original position to attack again), it takes a while, but I've never died in 5-2.
As for the boss, stay behind him whacking away and if you get flies on you, run and let the flames burn them off, heal, rinse and repeat.
Firestorm eats him alive.
I hate the beginning part of this world im not good with the heights so i end up falling to my death 3 or 4 times before i kill the boss. One time i just charged in the boss room, turns out there is no floor if u just go straight so i fell to my death there and had to start the level over again.
Yeah, I've done that before as well xD.

i have on the rogue's clothes and it lets me run but not roll. i put on the regenerator's ring and it slows down the poison enough so it wears off before killing me.
i thought it was pretty easy to navigate. from where the initial catwalk ends into the swamp, just keep going towards the little patches of land. and it'll take you to the first fog gate. then just follow the catwalk then down to the patches of land again.
i guess you'll have to venture out into the void if you're gonna fight the BP.
At first, I hated it too, but after a while, it grew on me, especially when playing as a Blue Phantom. As long as you have the Ring Of Poison Resistance, and either the Gloom or Thief's armor set, it's not that bad. Carrying an Istarelle +5 (and a Brand +5, if you can manage it) doesn't hurt, either. While Soul Light isn't bad, Fireball are Firestorm are probably the best spells for 5-2, because everything there is weak against fire, including the boss. Dragon +5 melee weapons are very useful, too.
I'm just glad that I can't smell the place!
I actually thought the whole of the valley of defilement was pretty awesome. Though I probably spent more time in 5-2 than any other level because I basically roamed the entire swamp looking for where to go when I fell in, and panicked because of the seemingly infinite number of cockblocking structures.
Overall it was a lot less frustrating than 3-2 for me. Getting tackled by gargoyles is a bitch.
Lols, i totally agree with you, and i am about Soul Lvl 131 right now, on NG+, and I still dont know my way around 5-2. All i know is fall in, bring 99999999 Lotus, walk around following the fence and hope you find the opening. And i dare anyone to try this, i don't know how i did it, but i did, once only. The BP with a Meat Cleaver…was getting owned by her in NG+ because of the meat cleaver one hit KO. I equipped BlackLeather Set, thiefs ring, and graverobers ring, and used Hidden Soul Spell, and I ran at her like a village idiot waving a stick(Catalyst), and soulsucked her in the face. She swung the meat cleaver which should have killed me, but i have found out that a BP with only ONE weapon cant hit you during the soulsuck animation if you spam roll during the animation. I think this is because the game thinks you are rolling while the animation says that the physical space that will damage you is at your body in the animation. Since while rolling you can only be hit with sweeping attacks at the feet with certain weapons, you damage intake area will decrease to just the lower half of your feet, so run like a village idiot, soulsuck in the face, and spam roll works on some single weapon BPs, also such as the BP skeletons in 4-x with the really big scary single blade i wish you could get. The BP skeletons with dual katanas will however slice your feet off becausetheir 2nd one, will be a left hand sweep.
I came for the faintstones but stayed for the gloomy atmosphere. Don't know why but it feels cozy.
Riveting tale, chap
I actually just got to this stage on my first playthrough, I have already beaten worlds 2-4 and am around 80 SL I believe, and this place is still kicking my ass! I can safely say this is the only world in this game I truly hate, was not that big a fan of world 3, but world 5 is on a whole new level of annoyance!
Yeah, capcomkid I'm totally in agreement with you.
I'm supposed to be marginally good at this game, and I've got a number of pms from you wonderful lot asking questions or thanking me…but that doesn't mean that 5-2 doesn't terrify me xD.

I actually enjoy world 5 for the soul reason that no one else has a clue as to how to navigate it. My favorite thing is when a BP invades and I lead them around for 2 hours before I appear to them and then calmly step into the boss area forcing them out. Even though this level is difficult you have to admit it provides one of the challenges that makes this game so great.
Ilkar you've answered like 8 of my questions since this forum came out I doubt that your just marginally good. And if not then you definately know a lot about the game. Back on topic, It's not that I don't think the level was well designed it's just that I end up dying here more than any other level. On the first playthrough I didn't even know about the shrtcut near the beginning so I ran through that swamp about 6 or 7 times when I didn't even need to and then when I was looking up strategies for the bos before facing him I found out about him.
Same story with me. The level design is fit-for-purpose, with the purpose being inspiring fear and hatred in players.
I personally dislike the gloomy atmosphere, I'm all for the dystopian grandeur of Boletarian Palace.
Soulcrusher, it has been my pleasure to assist you and everyone else and personally I feel it's the latter - I know a lot and have the free time to spout it at you all xD.

I don't mind the gloominess I thought it was pretty cool if highly annoying but by far my favorite level was 4-1. The brightness really makes me feel great after trudging through that damn swamp for 30 minutes+. Also it was our pleasure to recieve your assistance. Well I assume it was our pleasure I don't speak for everyone:)
