by demons be driven
The story behind the 6th archstone is that it leads to the northern lands. (presuming you aren't one of the people who believe the northern lands is where the nexus resides anyway.)
The northern lands are inhabited by giants…there is a picture of them somewhere on this wiki (which significantly shows some human sized dwelling alongside the giant ones, implying their cultures were relatively friendly), not sure where I saw it though.
Boletaria was once at war with them, and the northern lands were the first to fall to the fog prior to Demon's Souls taking place.
However, it is postulated by some that the giants were allies of the the humans (Boletarians) in the same way that the mine dwellers in Stonefang and the people of the White Lady in Latria were, given the scale of the constructions in some of the areas of the game and the size and grandeur of the Nexus. This means it is possible that demonic influence was what caused the giants to turn against the humans, and the beginning of the war.
Either way, the stone was destroyed to prevent a demonic invasion from the other side.

Has anyone heard about an add-on from ATLUS???
I haven't. I asked my younger brother about this one before, with him being a self-professed expert on ATLUS games.
He reckons that considering their past record of DLC (i.e Little to none) it is very unlikely.
Also, they did in fact only port the game to the US and do some translation fixes. Any added content would have to come from From Software, which if anything has a worse record for DLC.
However…we can only hope… *Drools*

Here is the possible picture of the Northern Lands (warning, it's 2mb): http://sarshelyam.brinkster.net/poop/DemonsSouls/demonssouls_jjoy_wallpaper_01.jpg
Uh… I don't know about you guys, but if they decide not to add this archstone, I'm fine with it… I mean, it's not that I don't want to get smashed into dust by a 200-foot demon, but… well…
Completely with you on that one. It'd be awesome to have new land to discover, but those things are monstrous! I'm almost completely a melee fighter, even though magic is my highest stat. Imagine melee fighters going up against those. You hide behind them to attack them, they step back looking around for you, and SPLAT! All that's left is Kylana's purple hair XD
I don't think they'll add it on becuase if you think about it, you'll have to start over with a new character to access it otherwise it wouldnt have been possible to open the doorway to the old one…it would suck for them to add it on this late after the release of the game and have to go back and replay a different char JUST to access this archstone.
There has been talk of making a DS 2 using this archstone as a "pre-quel" to the game..I think that would be the best idea. Focus soley on that archstone and the war that the giants had with boletaria..it would be interesting to see the fall of these giants to something as simple as these tiny demons that my character kicks ass against
Why can't you download it but not have access to it until you start a new char OR your next NG+?
I'm not sure what you are talking about because you only have to kill 1 archdemon before you are able to kill the false king and once you kill him you can go to the old one. Once I got all the items and stuff upgraded with colorless souls I just killed 1 archdemon and then went on to beat the game so I could farm souls better.
What? No…you have to kill ALL of the archdemons to go meet the old one. On one of my most recent playthroughs, I saved 3-3 for last. Killed False King waaaay before I actually went on to finish the game.
Rumours abound on the 6th archstone being DLC. They put it there for a reason, if only to see what we might speculate about it and whether the demand is there for more. Could easily be just a plot loophole to tie a sequel into. I would kill for a full sequel.
They could have just run out of Dev time, declared the Archstone as broken and re-distributed the creatures they had already earmarked for that area to the other stones. Notice how World 1 has 4 areas compared to the other's 3 areas? You could argue that the undeniably huge Tower Night was possibly once envisaged as a boss within the Land of Giants. It's only a theory of course but it just seems a bit pointless having the broken Archstone there and it's not a massive leap of imagination to speculate that with all the best intentions, they wanted the game to have 6 worlds but ran out of time.

i could totally see mini vanguards as the norm for the land of the giants :)
that picture makes that land look awesome! if only the sequal (if they make one) will take place there i could imagine your a soldier who dies then a flashback takes you back leading up to your death but thats normally were turns out you lived and you get to kill a giant but then die killing it. this sounds like a plot for a game right?
