Hey everyone, I like using Katanas when I do PvP. but my question is which Katana would be the best for pvp, and how should I upgrade it? Thanks.
I like katanas too, their cool but just dont seem to use one alot of the time, however it depends on what your stats are i like the crescent since it gives MP regen and does magic damage scaled by your magic stat.
In terms of Katanas…your options are really a +5 Sharp/Tearing Uchi or a +3(debatable!) Hiltless, if you can put up with the HP drain on hit from it.
Dual wielding Katanas is a very popular and very effective PvP strategy, one that I've come across and been beaten by countless times.

Isn't Makoto better than Hiltless? The damage is higher and the life drain is less?
Definately not. Makoto doesn't scale with your stats, whereas as unupgraded Hiltless already scales at E/B.
At a very low soul level then Makoto would perhaps be better, but for serious PvP using a Hiltless is a lot better.
Plus, the Hiltless only drains HP on a successful attack, rather than constantly, which some people find a bit off putting.

I had no idea about it only draining on a hit. Good info.
Also, once you upgrade Hiltless to +3, will the Added Param. bonus get any better after that?
See, I like doubling up the Katanas… but i also use the morion blade, (me usually invading its hard to pull its special off and live) but Yah, i need the sharp trophy and right now I use crecent Uchi +5.. not working out to well. Its tough out there being a Black Phantom!
Thats the thing with katanas they really suck at pvp but are pretty good at PvE that is why i really dont use katanas anymore
morion blade special? not heard of that, is that left or right hand equip???
Mephistopheles was right about you……………
Well, what weps do you use in pvp? I'm open to ideas, I prefer light weapons though, I'm not one of those people looking for the cheap 1hko with cursed weps.
Yah, I use to use N.Reg and I was pretty good with it. I may go back to it. I'm just trying to find light weapons that I can manage. I don't have a good strategy, yet.
N.Reg is awesome after a few won fights because your character tend. is so high. It's just easy, no work needed damage.
if a +5 crescent katana isn't doing it for you, then your magic level is like 10 or you're just swinging it and letting it get blocked. With a little patience, let the other guy swing and then counter with swift blows. It has excellent speed and range and damage and a shield will only block the physical damage.
The best weapon will still be ineffective when wielded by a rookie.
Its real strength is as a proper magic wielder's sidearm. Combining magic attacks and katana swipes in a cycle rapes your opponent of stamina first and hp soon after. Add some bleed effect and you have a bleeding, panicking opponent pretty quickly who's trying to back away and get healed. a simple ranged spell usually finishes them.
I like the N Regalia but its swingspeed/power ratio has its limitations and its power is maxed at pure white or pure black. Good for early NG+ not so much for late in the game or beyond. The blueblood is comparable damage but better swing speed, and the +5 crescent uchigatana has yet to find a level out point for me.
the crescent +5 isn't too great for a katana. The main allure for a dex based katana build is that the offhand swing is very fast. Knowing how to abuse that with pushes + mainhand finisher is part of what makes katana users dangerus. Also there's a few katana tricks like the lunge and two handing causing significant move palette swaps that makes the weapon very versatile.
I just got the hiltless and the makoto but as said earlier in the thread the makoto isn't the weapon of choice for pvp. So i'm wondering if it would be better to use a sharp or a tearing uchigatana + 5 and the hiltless.
And is it a good idea to upgrade the hiltless to something higher than + 3? I read the wikiarticle but it seems like + 5 is the same as + 3 for the hiltless.
I would go with the Hiltless +5 option purely because of the nightmare that is Pure Bladestone hunting, unless fo course you are going to dupe. Even though the paramenters for Hiltless don't appear to increase in the menu at +3, doesn't the 'S' rank get higher with each upgrade?
I want to use 2 katanas. Or is it better to use a shield instead of a second katana for PvP?
Everything should always be taken up to max upgrades, if possible. Each letter (S, A, B, C, D, E) has different sublevels in it…for example, the Dragon Bone Smasher only has a B in Strength, but still does ridiculous damage. Phosphorescent Pole has an S in Magic, but isn't actually that great…which would make it a low S.
I highly doubt the game creators would have two pointless upgrades. I would take it all the way…even if they turn out to be the same, why not? It's worth it if even though it's still S the damage is increasing.
