I've been thinking about this one, and I'm on the fence over it. I'll see what can be done to accomodate you and anyone else who wants a builds board.

I say no. There are already alot of redundant sub-forums (2 NPCs and Strategy sub-forums, for example).
I think it'll cause less confusion if we renamed the Gear Optimisation sub-forum to Character Builds
i dont think you should make a whole new section, just update the current character builds
page - and change some names too (Turtle Gear Destroyer WTF?)

Update how? As for the names… changing them is tricky because they're other people's ideas. Going in and arbitrarily changing them would make us seem (more) authoritarian.
What happened to the Speed Knight on the wiki builds page? I found that one quite handy as I picked a Hunter to start with so was referring to it every now and then

what happened to lost soul? I don't see why it would be removed as it covers a conundrum that players face. i don't see why it got removed.
It wasn't "removed". I just didn't bother transferring it to the new format. If you think it is a valid build, please go here and copy-paste it over, using the new format.
As for why I didn't, simply because I didn't see how a "Whatever you need" concept helped. That's just my opinion, so don't let it stop you from (re)writing the build.
i understand but i know that there will be at least a few people, i was, that won't want a single stat that is too strong but doesn't know where to go. i'm just saying.
Should I have the build summaries in Character Builds show the build's rating, as voted by wiki users? Does anybody see a downside to this?
I don't see a downside, but put a rating tag in the pages so it is obvious that the users can / should rate. Also, if you can sort the list by most popular that would be cool too. I don't think there is anything wrong with listing the most popular builds. It saves you from digging through everything if you just want to find something that works for a lot of people. If that is not what you want, then you'll keep digging through all of them regardless.
Stuck the Rating module to the top of each build's page. The Character Builds page will also display the individual ratings for each build.
Gonna hold off sorting the entries by rating.

The only guidelines for rating builds are personal ones. Basically, it's an arbitrary, numerical review of the build. If somebody wants to come in a rate every build up or down by random, then hey, that's the way it is. The whole concept relies on the many readers and members of this Wiki to go in and contribute, be it a simple +1, -1 or, better yet, a constructive comment. Crowdsourcing 101.
I have to agree with Ojimaru on this one. If you want to nudge people into a certain voting mindset then you might want to clearly state that your build is a PvE or a PvP build. Then I think you will find people who are interested in one or the other will vote based on that. If you don't label it, then you run the risk of a preconception in the mind of the viewer. For example if the user is looking for PvP builds, and you don't label yours differently, then they will be more likely to view all builds as PvP builds. Like the saying goes, "When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail".
On the whole though, if enough people rate your build down to a negative 10 then it is not a good one. It should be removed and you can take the feedback, improve it, and then re-list it with improvements. Do not re-list it without improvements, though. Remember if 50 people say it is positive, it takes 60 to say it is negative before you hit a total overall negative 10 rating. So, usually a negative 10 is a good indicator that your build has issues.
Also, keep in mind that if you keep an eye on your build and see that there are issues people are pointing out to you, then you should reflect on those comments and possibly update your build. If you do this, then you increase the chance that more and more people who visit your build will rate it positive and thereby overcome the negative ratings you might start out with. Like anything else in life, if you take constructive feedback to heart, you usually find yourself with a better product in the long run.
If you feel the system is not working, then let us know with specific examples of builds that got removed and we will look into it and make a revision on policy if necessary. We just have to balance the desire of users to list their builds with the desire of consumers not to have to sift through a hundred builds that the majority of users feel are not worthwhile.
Ojimaru, can you please make rating the default option as opposed to alphabetical listing? I prefer this for two reasons. The first is that when I look for things like a build, I want to just see right off the bat what is a good build. The rating is a good indicator of that, where alphabetical listing has no meaning at all. The second is I don't want people to abuse that sort order by labeling their builds aaaaaaaaaMy-build-is-first. We are all very well aware of the "first" posters in this world, so let's not give them any help. :)
To those creating builds, I just looked through the builds and noticed a trend amongst the lower rated ones. Lack of details. You can't just post stats, folks. That does not mean much to anyone. You should post the stats, the equipment, play style and most important why all of those things are a good build. That way people can make a very informed decision on your build when and if they choose to vote on it. I was myself tempted to vote negative on several of them, just because they offered little beyond stat points.
Think like the user who is voting would think. You have really two classes of voters. You have the people who have played this game to death and are gurus on builds. They are the ones who are going to give you feedback. Then you have people who are new to the game, or are looking to play another character or style, and they go out looking for ideas. When the latter group comes across a page that just lists points to put into the various attributes, they actually tend to get annoyed. The idea of "Why in the hell did they just waste my time" gets in their head and they are very often going to slap that negative button without another thought.
Idea for new Build: Power Mage

This is a build to creat a character who can deal mass damage with both melee and magic while being able to take a hit. Strength, Endurance, Intelligence, and Magic are THE most important stats to build on, Vitality and Luck are second. First to begin building this charactor is to get stats required for the BlueBloodSword as it is the best weapon for this build. Also get a Talisman of Beast from BP Scirvir or Mestophiles, so you can use miricales for support, such as Cure. It is also suggested that a Silver Coronet is worn to up MP amount. With high enough endurance, a character can where heavy armor with the ability to dodge. Dodging will be your best friend as a shield is NOT suggested for this build. "No shield?! But i'll be slaughtered without my shield!!! T~T" wrong! this is why we use heavy armor and spells such as Warding.

Fluted, Meridian, Dark Silver, Gloom, Brushwood, or Ancient Hero chest, gloves, and boots (High Endurance 30+)

I quite like the idea of having a builds section. I could imagine someone wanting to ask about builds, or get advice on their build, without wanting to post it in the Character Builds section.
