Alternative Measuring
Use your weapon to measure distance:
* Sneak up to the skeleton and pan the camera so you look at both you and it from the side.
* If you are using an Uchigatana, when the very tip of the weapon touches a part of an enemy (when not moving), you are close enough to use Soul Sucker that enemy.
* Other weapons have different ranges, but this will provide a permanent marker once you learn it. Additionally, it works on both the Black and Gold Skeletons. For Gold Skeleton's aim at the back arm.
Alternate Soulsucker Tactic:
If you have to use Ring of Magical Nature to remember Soulsucker, try this out. Naturally your 2 rings will be magical nature and avarice, to get the most out of it. This doesn't leave room for thief's ring, or Hide spell etc. Un-equip armor cause it doesn't particularly matter on this guy anyway :P When you approach his back, use any ol' single hand weapon to back stab him. Have you wand ready in your left hand. After your cinematic attack, chase him down and begin Soulsucker. You should get it off with no issues, but be sure to lock on and run into his 'center'.

If you are so inclined, you can walk a few paces forward after killing the phantom skeleton and you'll notice two black phantom gold skeletons with their backs turned. Hit the first one with Soulsucker and then unlock your target and walk a few paces back before the other one can get to you. He will start to walk back to where he spawned, thus giving you the opportunity to walk back over again and use Soul Sucker him as well. This will add another 60k+ souls to your run. After you're done, Evacuate. Rinse and repeat.

If you have the max stamina, the eternal warriors ring for quick stamina record, got the running timing right and are strong enough to take out the reaper by close range attack you can do this run in about 1 minute 30 seconds including nexus time for a total of 77k. That works out to 3.08 million an hour. This is using the alternative measuring method and a pure black world tendency. A nice advantage of this run is it's the most likely to net you the Pure Bladestone, the rarest upgrade stone in the game.
