This actually is a great method I just discovered and was going to post but since someone already posted it there is no need for me to post it again. Everyone offers methods for people with the soulsucker. Hasn't it ever occured to anyone that some people may not have this spell but still need to farm souls? Don't get me wrong I greatly appreciate every single contribution but the PBWT starting from 4-3 and tracking back method is posted with little variations three times already. This method is great for people who want to play pure physical characters and first timers.
By the way, if you don't mind a slight detour after killing all the Mantas, you can go for the geckos there to collect Cloudstones.

unless I'm missing something holding the Stormruler with 2 hands gave me no more souls than holding it with one, both ways gave me 2011 each
I've tried it both ways , and found that while the world tendency is pure white , I get an extra 25% by holding it 2 handed . When you have black WT however , it makes no difference .
I've been complaing about not being able to find almost the best farming technique. I am a good person… im not going to wreck my character with black soul and world tendency. I'll try the two-handed storm ruler trick..Talk 2 u guys l8r.
I play the good guy in the game as well.I coulda scored 200,000 souls by killing The Black Maiden at the end of the game, but chose the hero way.
I was running a Blueblood swordsman, and got hit by a 3x soulsucker combo (twice) by False King while tanking as a Blue Phantom. Lost points from magic and faith (and luck) to the point where I needed 4 levels at 22K+ just to use the only good weapon I had; would have been several hours of grinding. This got me the 4 lvls in under 15 minutes. Bravo. :D
