Quick advice on Old Hero???

Im about to fight Old Hero for the first time..its my first playthrough, well, i started two characters and my dex build won out quickly and by level 20…i am SL 40, im using a lava bow, with fire arrows so im doing 330 damage with it, i use makoto and i have hide and demons prank as my spells…i read the strategies….i figured the cloak stack with theifs ring would hide me from a blind guy pretty well…im tired of reapers so i dont feel like dying in this fight…should I kunai him a few times to get him poisoned, and then hit him with arrows slowly, like this wiki suggests…hit, wait for the roar to end, and hit a gain…poisoning him and then hitting em with an arrow…will he really not notice me?? is there a particular spot i should stand?? if so, would hyper mode be advisable?? (if he cant see me, as the strategy implies) I would hate to makoto myself down to 245 hp for hyper and he jumps right on me…or is another strategy better??

thanks in advance..i realize i wrote an awful lot, and hello to all on this new forum…i plan on making this my home, the official one is just too much for me…

He's blind. Wear that thief's ring. Shoot from a distance with that lava bow once and then quietly go somewhere else. Often if he's charging down the middle of the hall you can run down the side past him to the other end. Once you know he doesn't know where you are, aim and shoot again. Just don't get greedy trying to fire off a lot of arrows from one place; he'll come for you. If you're patient he should never get near you.

I agree. As long as you take your time, he is really easy. I always just hide right behind the beginning tomb, and if he ever comes charging down the middle, just dodge to the side when he leaps into the air. Piece of cake. And he often will not kill you one hit, so even if you do make a mistake, just heal up.

thank you…i went with that strategy…theifs ring and cloak spell…arrow at a time, i went into hyper mode and never had to move from the pillar i used as cover…i didnt want to go in prepared for that strategy and have it back fire…works like i charm tho, the only damage i took i gave to myself…

There's a huge pile of rubble towards the door to the Storm King's arch stone that works really well too, you can pump arrows into him nonstop, just be careful you don't lure him to your side, and the tip of his sword also clips through and can hurt/kill you if you're standing right next to it.

I just used Death Cloud and waited for him to die, but that takes away all the challenge, as does any range strategy
the way I wanted to do it would be to just level up insanely and face him toe to toe with a high dps weapon and heavy armor + total protection

Old Hero is probably the easiest (or 2nd easiest) boss I've fought in my first playthrough so far, just downed him about 4 hours ago or so.

How I melee-ed him down was simply by either waiting for him to randomly launch a forward attack or just rushing up to him, then hit him for 3 or 4 hits (180 or 225 damage with my Tearing Kilij+1) and then sprint + roll far away from him just as he roars. If you hang around too long after he roars he'll smash you hard with his forward attack, takes about 1/2 of your health.

If he appears to be bending down, get away from him as he'll do a 360 AoE attack. Thats pretty much it, rinse & repeat a 3-4 hit combo for about 12 to 15 times and he'll go down. Really, he's one the total pushover bosses for melees I've encountered so far.

Having Thief's Ring is prolly the best thing to do for this battle. Also, you could 2-H your weapon since shield is pretty lol for this battle and do extra damage to finish him faster.

There is no point in screwing around for a "challenge" holding all the souls you collected from the level. Soul ray does more damage than any arrows, but its the same strategy. wait until he shouts after being hit before you fire again. Keep your warding spell on in case you mess up and he charges. I usually just fire from one clear end or the other, then switch ends once he's close so that I have more time to respond to a charge with my shield. If you survive the first hit he does not have a follow up attack. As long as you remember when your warding is about to expire and make sure you're warded before firing you're fine.
Sneak up on him every once in a while and do a firestorm if you have it too.

he is super super super super easy. First off he is blind, he will never find you if you cast cloak o have a thiefs ring on i promise, second off firestorm can kill him one hit if your strong enough and if you just hang back and cast magic at him all you gotta do is keep you distance. he randomly swings his sword when you get close. just stay behind him, hit him, run back until he is done spazing out. rinse and repeat

the cheapest way to kill him is online just summon a blue phantom and make sure his using the thief's ring , he will completely ignore his presence ,so u can run away from him while ur friend kill's the handicap.

Don't forget to take your shoes off so you make less noise.

Doing this with the Thief's ring makes you a ninja.

Aren't we so terrible, laughing about ways to murder a handicapped hero? Ah, whatever. SOULS > Morality

I personally just use a thief's ring and poke him in the bum. When he roars, roll away once or twice, laugh when he does nothing, then repeat.

Just don't remove the ring, or he'll start doing crazy lunging ninja crap and beat you to death relatively easily, blindness or not.
