Hello, I have a problem on my hands that I thought I should share here so I can get some additional feedback.
Basically, I am trying to find out the exact rules and stipulations the game/servers impose on black phantoms invading other players. I share a house with 2 other players of this game, and recently have been playing together, but currently, I cannot seem to be invaded by or invade either of them.
This began a series of answer searching via the internet and self imposed tests. The results thus far are very interesting, though they do not solve my current predicament.
Let's get all the basics out of the way.
1. We have 3 characters on 3 separate Playstations on 3 separate playstation accounts.
2. All the PS3s are connected to the same router.
3. I am level 49, my friend is 50, and my other friend is 42
4. We have no immediately obvious connectivity issues. Any of us can summon any other (or both) of us into their world as a blue phantom without trouble.
5. The person who is trying to be invaded is INDEED in body form, and the invading party is in soul form.
6. We have tried to leave to nexus/quit game/restart game/restart PS3 without solving the problem.
According to the wiki right now. The requirements for invading another person and inviting another person is at + or - 10 soul levels, up to level 50, and then 15 from 50 to 100.
Let me tell you right now that this information is most likely wrong.
I decided to conduct a test by randomly invading people in 4-2 for several hours, each time I invaded someone new, I would send them a message via playstation network and ask them what level they are. Out of the 25 or so people that replied, not one of the were below me in level. Plus, the levels they reported ranged 50 to 68. I was able to invade at least 2 people a full 19 levels out of my level range. And it seems that you can only invade UPWARDS. This information does not seem to be completely new, some people have proposed it, but no one has given a full range or even really speculated on the matter.
Having found this out, it should technically mean that I should be able to invade my level 50 friend without trouble. However, I cannot invade her character at all, and will frequently reach the "Invasion Failed" text display when I have run out of other people to invade. This occurs even when she is not being invaded by anyone else.
I had at a point previously invaded her world, on 2 separate occasions, once in 5-2 and once in 4-1, both times when neither of us had beaten either level, and I was a full 5+ levels under her.
So, what other stipulations are present for characters invading other players? Latency? IP address? Stage completion? There are a lot of factors that I cannot test on my own, so if there are any others out there that can help formulate theories or answer some questions, it would be really helpful!
In addition however, I find it kind of a surprise to be able to invade 19 levels above myself at level 49 (20 levels at that stage can make quite a difference). And I suspect the range could possibly increase as you advance in levels. I have always felt that I met stronger players as an invader than as a defender, and now I know the reason why. So all you black phantoms that can win in head on fights without the aid of environmental elements or cloak and dagger techniques: pat yourself on the back, you're doing pretty well!
