Yep, I leave for Great Lakes Michigan for Basic Training in the United States Navy on May 16th.
I'll be there for at least five weeks, and then it's off to Shepard Air Force Base in Texas for my technical training in the field of Construction Electrician.
That's right folks, I'ma be a Seabee.

How many of you lot are/were in the military (no matter the country), and do you guys have any advice?

Also, I'ma miss you lot

Try not to attack when your drill Sgt. is using his +5 a$$-tearing vocal weapon. Wait until he's out of stamina roll to the side and stick that bayonet in his back.

In military, try not to joke around 2 much and put in ur hardest efforts to succeed, protect and serve your country with honor(and a quick note: don't have a hate for enemies, its never good to have such thoughts).

when my buds left for training they still had contact through internet and some of them were even playing modern warfare 2 with me.

As long as its training(opposed to being shipped out) it wont be that scary

just want to say that enlisting in the army is retarded and the only way you could come out of the army with a decent life is by planning it through in highschool

my dad who was in the special forces(currently in national guard) said this while convincing my cousin not to enlist

I am almost done my construction electrician trade, less than a year left. If you are going to put your life on the line better to get some better training out of them. Here in canada it costs roughly 8000$ for the entire 4 year apprentiship. If I was you I would be makin them pay for an engineering degree or something. Dont get me wrong If enlisting is your choice, all the power to you. My best friend is enlisting as we speak. All im saying is you could pay for construction electrician training off of mcdonalds wages lol. Btw the trade isnt as glorious as people make it seem, spend alot of time doing sh it jobs. If wiring houses your whole life is what you want to do, have at er'. Maybe consider Industrial instead, its alot more interesting and pays ALOT more. Either way best of luck to you.

Its not bad man; don't be scared. I went to Chicago for my basic training… soooo cold up there compared to what I was used to lol. You'll make friends and most of the people that out ranked me weren't as mean and asshole prone as people make them out to be. Personally, the little time you have for getting in-touch with people back home was the worst thing for me. In a few weeks you'll be settled in and everything will be normal.
