Pure Bladestone on 1st play through ?

Hey guys .

I am raising a dex character and am trying to get a pure bladestone from black skele in hidden passage pbwt .
Spent hours and hours on it with no luck getting 1 . I just want to know if is possible to get 1 on 1st play through or do i have to wait till NG ?

I have seen people post that they have gotten it on NG.

The odds aren't going to be any better in NG+. It is just a matter of real life luck and the desire/ability to farm until you get it.

If you can kill a Black Skeleton quickly, that helps. The only difference really between farming for it in NG and farming for it in NG+ is in NG+ you can have Soulsucker and you can backtrack from Old Hero Archstone and get more Souls out of your kills.

The method I used to get mine in NG+ is the same method that can be used in NG. I just killed the first Reaper in 4-2 and then went through the secret door and Firestorm'd the Black Skeleton there over and over until I got it.

Now if you are going all Dex and aren't able to cast Firestorm it will probably be a bit tougher and slower to farm, but it can still be done.

I got three pure bladestones in NG (that is, my first playthrough) at PBWT, so it certainly can be done. In fact after I beat 4-3, I suicided repeatedly to bring the world tendency down, went and killed the hidden passage skeleton and he dropped a pure the very first time. :P

I wonder if there was something about my character or game that was making them drop easily, but I have no idea what. Luck 10, no LSoS. Maybe it was just freaky luck to get 3 in a short time.

Actually, it is quite easy to get. I had a luck of 7 and bure black WT in 4-2. At the beginning, there is a secret passage in one of the stairwells leading to the altar. Behind that stairwell is a dual Katana black skelleton (NOT a black phantom skelleton). I was farming from him and got a pure bladestone my first time. I kept going back to farm chunks of bladestone and found several more pures.

He's not that hard to kill. Out of the castle into the clearing, WALK with your shield raised. As he moves towards you, lock on and walk past him. He'll do his jump-slash type thing. Run up and stab him in the back. As he gets up, hit him twice. Pause for 1/2 sec, reset yourself behind him, then backstab him again. Repeat until dead.

If you do it right, you can actually backstab him back into the castle passage so you don't have to worry about those flying guys constantly shooting at you.

Yeah, the original poster is farming the same black skeleton you are describing; everybody does. For some people it's still incredibly rare.

I had the same experience as you, however. I found them dropping pretty frequently (I would get all the pures I needed before I got all the chunks I needed). The fact that we both had the same frequent rate makes me speculate there is a way to get the rate up, and we were both doing it, but didn't know what we were doing. Other people spend hours and hours on the same thing at PBWT without getting anything.

I read somewhere (I think somewhere in this wiki) that a high luck actually decreases the chance for pure drops. Since a high luck increases the drop rate of ALL items, this also increases the chance for shards, chunks, soul remains, uchis, etc that these skelletons drop. You're better off farming without the sword of searching with a very low luck if you want rare ore drops.

A higher drop rate is good for drops in general, not specific rare items.

I guess i will just keep going at it . I started as a wanderer with 13 luck and have not raised it . At this stage the black skeleton has dropped enough Uchigatana's , shards and chunks to make about 6 +4 sharps yet not one drop of a pure yet . Will keep you guys posted .

Finally got it last night ! I lost count of how many hours i spent doing it . I jump on to farm it for a hour or so and got it on second run through .
The + 5 sharp Uchigatana is a nasty weapon !

I'm thinking that "how" you kill them may make a difference. It seems that if you use a different weapon or method, ie ranged vs melee, you will get a different drop. I've noticed this in Stonefang where you go through the tunnel with multiple miners. I usually use "Soul Ray", but after a while you stop getting drops at all. i have then gone back and used a hammer and suddenly gotten drops again. Maybe just a coincedence, but it would answer why people farm hundreds of times and can not get what they want. Try a different Kill method and see what happens

I did backstabbing vs ranged, backstabbing got me lots of blade chunks where as ranged got me tons of shards…..

im pretty sure the method in which you kill an enemy changes the drop rate or drop quality of items

Got my Pure on first playthrough. I wouldn't suggest farming the hidden passage though. Rather 4-3 Black Phanotm dual katana skeleton is the way to go. Farmed the secret passage for about 18 hours (6 hours in 3 nights) with no success. Started at Old Hero archstone and worked my way back to the Black Phantom skele and it dropped within 1 hour. Snuck up behind it with Graverobbers rings and Firestormed it to death. Went ahead and killed the two gold ones as well.
