This guide is for beginners and casual pvp players. I write it because I sometimes feel sorry with some players when iam invading, because often my opponents do not even lack skill, but a proper build and equipment! If you got invaded or invade yourself and must ask yourself "WTF did just happen?"/"Why did this guy kill me that easily?" then this guide is for you! It's simple and short because it only covers the very basics.
1. Flexible Buildup
Wether you like to play PvP alot or just casualy and focus on PvM: There are two stats you profit the most if you level them up faster. For any melee builds its a mix of vitality and endurance (up to 40) and for casters its vitality and intelligence. Do not spend too many points into your damage stats (dex, faith, magic, str) because you will do more damage if you have more stamina to hit a few times more and you will survive more if you have enough to roll out or block a swing. The added damage from your damage-stat is not as significant as it would cover additional hits. You also need a HP-Pool to have room for mistakes and to not be a oneshit wonder.
2. Proper Equipment
A) Armor: Never equip heavy armor. It's simply not worth it when you can't roll properly (equipweight>50%) and if you do not regenerate stamina fast enough. At the beginning it's best if you wear robes and such or mix heavy pieces with them or even heavy pieces + NO armor (only wear chest and boots for example). Later in the game youll find the Ancient King's Set/Black Leather Set/Binded Set. Those Sets do not lower your stamina regeneration and are very light.
B) Damage Weapons: Easyest to handle are two handed Poles (Mirdan Hammer and War Scythe are the best). Go on the wiki page to find out which weapon suits your build and just take the one with the highest based damage and either crushing, sharp, moon, crescent or blessed upgrade then you will have one of the best pvp weapons (about 40% of the weapons are suited for pvp).
C) Tool Weapons: Scrapping spear (with a shield) is a scary weapon to defend yourself even against good players if you want to play defensively. Baby's Nail is one of the most viable backup weapons to apply plague (does damage over time, healing is halved, stamina regeneration is lower). Stormruler is a good weapon for casters (almost no stat requirements) to knock enemies back. Use shields if you like blocking/(parrying).
D) Consumables: Allways have the following consumables equiped: The best healing grass, Ed's Grindstone, Kunai, Darkmoon Grass/Lotuses, Weapon Enchants. It is almost allways better to eat a healing grass if you run out of HP. Roll away before you use it and preferably hide behind something. Grindstones are for the case when your weapon breaks. If your opponent trys to heal himself then trow a Kunai at him to interupt healing and apply poison to him. You need Darkmoon/Lotus to get rid of plague and poison (bleeding is not that scary appart from the flashing message and the sound effect). Before a fight you will have an advantage if you enchant your weapno first so do it.
3. Spells/Miracles:
If you have one of these then use them in every pvp fight: Second Chance, Warding, Firestorm, Death Cloud. Those spells are insanely effective in PvP. You may ask yourself why I didn't mention Cursed/Light Weapon. Well, they both are weaker than Warding in most cases except you have highly upgraded weapons and even with toptier weapons I prefer Warding. If you have a general melee build, then you won't have enough intelligence to use Warding and Weapon buffs at the same time.
4. Basic Fighting Tipps:
- If you are invaded then try to avoid the fight until you summoned 1-2 Blue Phantoms. Good Black Phantoms can even kill two Blue's including yourself if they are in good shape!
- If you are invading then try to fight in a more or less dark and narrow place to prevent being hit by all your opponents. Also try to lure them out and kill one by one. Never charge into three enemies if you do not have a huge AoE spell.
- Don't just charge into your enemy. If you use Thief's Ring and/or Hide, then make sure you dont have any visible auras (Regeneration etc. you see the icons of Auras below your stamina bar) and try to attack from an angle where you are not expected. This can result in a backstab as an opener which is very effective.
- Beware of casters. They can kill you very fast, so try to evade their spells with rolls and dont fight in narrow places against them.
- Beware of dualwielded great weapons. They kill you with only a few swings and you will not block many of them. Try to evade some hits before you charge them.
- Beware of dual-katanas and fast swinging weapons. Don't let them hit you first. Use a weapon with great reach and hit them before they can stunlock you. Same goes for short weapons with fast swinging speed (normal straight swords such as blueblood/knight's sword and curved swords).
- There are quite a few spells (Firestorm, Ignite, God's Wrath) and big Weapons that can knock you over cliffs.
5. Don't Bother with…:
Blunt/Fist weapons, heavy armor, bows/crossbows, parrying (if you didn't train it before), attacking when you are low on stamina/mana/health, turning around before you have a proper space between you and your enemy.
