Alright as far as I can see, there is no where on this wiki that explains how different armors' defense stats affect damage taken. Now, does this defense reduce by a certain percent or does it subtract that much damage from the enemy attack. I personally think it subtracts the attack by that amount, but I don't know which is why I'm asking. If you know the answer to this question please share your wonderful knowledge, if not go spew you're crap somewhere else. Thanks in advance. -Ragnorax
Yeah I been looking for that Damage vs (type) Defense formula too. I started a thread called (Armor point by point…if that makes any sense to you…) which had some nice responses but ultimately yielded no true resolve for my main question. So the elusive numbers escaped me then also heres hoping someone can help us find that formula.
from my experience iam pretty sure it substracts. why? because when i started, the dreglings in 1-1 could kill me with a few hits and when i reentered the same area with a high soullevel and some good armor (i was on the way to old king) then i couldnt even see how much damage they did… it was probably only 1 point or so.
also from what i read about light/curse weapon buffs it seems that defense is simply substracted from attack rating.
but we can only know it by testing:
- summon a redstone (friend of course)
- let him hit you while your naked weapon 1
- let him hit you while you wear armor weapon 1
- let him hit you while your naked with weapon 2
- let him hit you while you wear armor with weapon 2
physical defense naked:
physical defense armored:
weapon 1 attack rating:
weapon 1 damage vs naked:
weapon 1 damage vs armor:
weapon 2 attack rating:
weapon 2 damage vs naked:
weapon 2 damage vs armor:
something like this… and ofcourse both weapons should deal physical damage only, because else it will be too unclear/complicated.
i would like to know the answer to this one as well because the difference doesnt seem that great when i wear black leather compared to dorans set and the equip burden relieft helps alot with black leather
with OKD set you can pretty much hold all weapons. SOme adjustments will have to be made for above 5 lbs, but you can just change the leggings and you ll be fine
until now iam pretty sure its a simple substraction, while the damage allways is at least 1.
i hit old king doran with an non-upgraded babys nail on ng with a faith build (16str+12dex). did 1 point of damage/hit. with my blessed KS +5 i did something like 50/80 damage/hit if i remember right.
the numbers arent that important anyway. the only important fact is, that defense rating does probably not cut attack rating by a %-based value. If it where like this, then my knight sword must do about 80 times more damage, even against 0 defense. that would mean if the babys nail did 20damage then the knight sword would do 1600 damage…
this is probably the reason why people believe that higher armor values do not help their survivability much. the dark silver set has 9-10 points more physical defense than the ancient king set. if you get hit by a 500ish damage then this means it only decreases it by about 2% if my guess is right. but those 9-10 points would be a 4% increase in overal physical defense by level 120.
this would also explain why a knight sword isnt as scary as a great axe. if you compare attackrating, stamina consumption and swinging speed, then the overall damage should be about the same.
well but this is all based on a guess that reflects my experience…
Here's some information that might be of value to someone. This is what my health bar looks like after being punched by the Dragon God (no, not during the tutorial) wearing two different types of armor. Vitality is 13. + = health remaining, - = health drained, +/- = half of a +
Full Black Leather:
[ + +/- - - - - - - - - -]
Full Miridan Armor
[ + + + +/- - - - - - - ]
Forgive me if this looks a little abstruse without actual numbers but I wasn't actually testing this when i got the information. For those who don't know, Black Leather is a light armor with a relatively low stamina penalty and defense rating while Miridan Armor is a heavy armor with a higher stamina penalty and better defense rating. From this i deduce that using heavier armor can mitigate enough damage to possibly let you take one extra hit when you might otherwise die in light armor. However, as anyone who has used Brushwood Armor before knows, the stamina penalty and need to use a Ring of Great Strength to roll (unless using a high leveled character) can lead you to take more hits that, with light armor, you could have rolled away from. Let it be known, however, that i've faced vitality-pushed NR builds with Warding and full Brushwood sets and these setups can be very difficult to take down without the proper leverage.
I know the title of the thread says "numbers" but, lol, i diagram is better than nothing right?
Couldn't find a bunny with toast, ah well.
