As many of you know, I posted a few days back that I had a project which was going to absorb a lot of my time. I got official approval to announce what that project is.
"… the game, a brand new hardback artbook filled with mesmerizing concept and game art images, a new strategy guide, plus the deeply atmospheric original soundtrack of the game on CD, the limited edition retail pack of Demon’s Souls is coming exclusively to EMEA and Asia Pacific on June 25, 2010, only for PS3."
Namco Bandai Partners Europe contacted me a few weeks ago and requested that I and Ilkar write the strategy guide for their release, as this site was the premiere site for information on the game. As part of the deal, Namco wanted to give the guide away free with the game, so Ilkar and I agreed that we would receive no royalties. All parties felt this was fair as our goal was to give the best possible experience with the game possible.
To show our thanks, we also requested copies of the finished guide that both Matthew and I will sign and give away as first prize in upcoming PVP tournaments! This is only available to North American users, as European users already get a copy of the strategy guide. Of course, if you win and don't want us to sign it, we will respect that and give you an unsigned version. Whatever makes the winner happy. Since you will all discover soon enough, Ilkar is Matthew Whisker and my real name is Wayne Gibson. We will both be listed as the authors of the guide. Much of the information regarding tables and statistics are available on this site already. However, we have written a walk through, with step by step instructions for new users to learn the game; which is a feature we do not have on this site. There will also be custom builds not already on the site included as well.
The guide is full of links to our little wiki here, so we can expect a lot of new users in the coming months. Forums for European users will be setup in addition to the North American ones, but users will be allowed to post in either they choose, or both. As a side note, the Forums are moving to another host with much better tools for both management and users.
The home page has been updated with a shot of the guide and of the complete box set.
There will be a credits section in which some key users on this site will be included. We will contact you to find your preference on whether we mention your full name, your handle, both of those, or decline any credit. We will respect your privacy, but we also want to give a chance for those who have given so much, and so freely, to this site get the credit they deserve.
This entire experience for Matthew and I has been beyond our wildest dreams. We set out to just make a community out of a game, rather than just a dry repository of information. We feel we have succeeded. The Ventrilo server is active all the time, forums are very popular, and overall it feels like a place to hang out, rather then a place to just read. We both sincerely hope that all of you love this site as much as we do. No matter what, this will be one of the greatest memories of our life's, and for that we will also be grateful to you.
We also want to take a moment and thank Namco Bandai Partners for the greatest opportunity ever given to us, and to state that they are a truly wonderful company to collaborate with. Professional, pleasant, and patient describes them the best, I think. Both Ilkar and I love writing, and this will not only be our first published work, but it is a work about a game we are both passionate about. A once in a lifetime offer, and we owe it all to our users and to Namco Bandai Partners,
A special mention to the wonderful system that Wikdot, Inc. has built. They have been excellent in working with me on the site in general and on this project in specific. Wikidot, Inc. is a wonderful company, run by the professional and always helpful Michal Frackowiak and all the other passionate employees who love their community and the business they have built.
Much love to all,
Wayne & Matthew
