There's an error here. In the rafters (where the three crossbowmen are) it says that there's a Penetrator, which is linked to the boss Penetrator. Dude, its the Penetrating Sword, not the Penetrator. you can find saidsword above the gate; the same gate that stops you from taking the most straight-forward route to the boss Penetrator.

4's flaming ball of death

I'm not sure if it's just me, or not, but when I got to that point, the ball hit me (didn't kill me), rolled on past, and stopped at the bottom of the stairs I came from, blocking most of the path there. I noticed if I hug the corner very closely (easy approaching the stairs, less so coming from them), I can avoid damage, while any following enemies will run right into the ball, suffering the rather large damage. This worked WONDERS on the red eye knight, whom I lured to the stairs, before jumping down where that crossbowman had been. The knight took the only path he could, right into the ball of fire, and with a bit more luring, repeated to until death.
