HI everybody,

what do you think about the Plans from Sony that they are going to add a Premium Playstation Network Account to the PS3?

and
Mubi film-streaming service
an ingame Voice Chat would be nice:

I personally don't care for sony's premium psn plan idea. If I wanted to pay a subscription for gaming I would go buy an XBOX. Alot of the games on the psn store aren't all that great IMO anyways. I am a fan of good rpg games, and very few other genres. I spend alot of time PC gaming aswell, still playing oblivion LOL. They would have to make a really great offer to get me to pay. That being said though I do agree that an in-game voice chat would do wonders for alot of games. I could see alot of people using the premium accounts though for the film streaming etc. Idk will have to wait and see @ E3 how this all pans out.

Based on my experience with voice chat, I think it ruins games. I've played Demon's Souls with a friend on the telephone, and it's very distracting, to the point where it ruins the game's mood. The same is true whenever I play Resident Evil 5 with players who have mics. Nine times out of ten, they have no clue what they're talking about, yet they babble non-stop. Sometimes, kids will get on there, and they'll either have loud music in the background or they'll be talking to friends who are watching them play. In those cases, I just quit the game.

I think the in-game commands and gestures work well enough for most games. I'm sure there are some war games that benefit from team communication, but I don't play those. I think it's a good idea to have the option for those who want it, but those of us who don't want to hear other players talking should have the option to mute player voices, without having to mute the in-game sounds and music.

Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my old age. lol

PSN Premium Accounts:

I have no problem with the idea, as presented. As long they don't ask me to pay to play online, it doesn't really matter.

I absolutely agree about voice chat. As it is, when I've played some games, like KZ2 for instance, even the text chatting is ridiculous. 2 guys got into a small fight in the clan I was in during a game after inviting me into the chat. I also get invited into way more chats than I want.

On top of that there's just way too much garbage going on (and I'm not talking about little kids) when using a headset in a game. People turn up their music so everyone can have the joy of listening. Others just call people names. Still others just throw some noise out there. And I've also had the immense pleasure of playing with people who are on the phone asking someone how to use a cheat in the game, or yelling at their kids and/or wife, screaming at the dog barking in the background, or just laughing when they kill someone. And then others complain when people aren't wearing their mics. I plug in a USB headset and never put it on. That way I don't hear them at all.

And, I do absolutely hate hearing really small kids(about 6 or 7 from the sound of it) squealing about some kid they just blew the head off of. I know I'm getting cranky in my old age.

They would have to have some type of service that I just had to have in order for me to pay for it. If I wanted to pay to play my console I would just go back to paying for my 360. Off the top of my head I cannot think of a single thing I would pay for. I will not pay to stream a movie, there just aren't any movies I just have to see. I already stream tv shows for free and watch them while I am playing my PS3 so having it on my PS3 would be counter productive as I wouldn't be able to play the PS3 at the same time.

In a bad economy they are just trying to increase their revenue and seeing as Microsoft has so many people willing to pay for all that useless crap they offer on Xbox Live they want a piece of the pie. Sure they say they won't change anything for the people who don't want to have the added service, but I bet on their next system it will be just like Microsoft has theirs.

It is hoped that as they say so far there will be no charge for playing games online. Even though it's not perfect it is still one of the reasons people choose the PS3. Also, there have been games that use this feature exclusively because it is something everyone has-games like Demon's Souls, LBP, and MAG and now I presume Mod Nation Racers, LBP 2 and a host of others. I am also assuming that the new Move system since it shows integration with LBP2 will have additional online only play.

The trend in some video games (especially with 360/PS3 cross platform games) seems to be to make single player campaigns ridiculously short, in a move to hook people on the online stuff (to get 360 owners to pay is my guess). I'm not talking about Oblivion or Fallout 3, totally offline. COD4 was short, MW2 seemed even shorter. And the online play wears out really quickly with all the glitching-it's maddening enough to have paid for the game and have the online feature burn out so quick. To have to pay to play online, weee. And DLC is just plain expensive. $40 here, $50 there.

It would also be unfortunate if this charge is applied to Netflix access since Netflix has been just announced for the Wii. My nephew just recently bought a PS3 for a variety of reasons-Blu ray, Net flix, games, and free online access. And this was after he decided that the system his father would like as a family gift was a 360. By the way, they live in different cities.

Xbox Live, PSN Premium, DLC, ….

All of that = very bad ideas.

- DLC : if players have to pay to add some quests / missions / new characters / über weapons / new maps, this is the death of the video games as we know. Before, to get some special feature, alt. endings or whatever, we had to unlock bonuses by ending the game or complete something.

Ex: Resident Evil (BioHazard) 2 on Playstation 1 —-> to unlock Hunk or Tofu = complete the game twice. And if RE 2 came out on PS3, we'll have to pay $5.00 or $9.99 for the special stuff ! And want the special outfit? Get the DLC for only $3.00 !!

Also, in USA, the full DLC pack for Disgaea 3 = $49.99. In Europe, the same DLC is……. 49.99€ (instead of 40€ with the dollar conversion) WTF????

I hope PC won't make the same mistake as XBL or Premium account. Imagine if all the Counter Strikes mods / maps / server get Premium or something like that ?

First of all, addressed to all of you: The point of having no vulgarity means to not even mention it. Blocking out one letter doesn't mean anything at all.

Second of all, don't like it? Don't buy it. It's that simple; they're not forcing you to pay to play online. If they are, then I'd rather pay for it then go to the 360. It may just be my preference of games, but the fact that it says it gives you 1-2 free PSN games per month is a deal maker for me. Sure, it might cost about $50 USD for all that, but it kind of balances out when you have 12 new games by the end of your subscription.

Lastly, dende, those are added bonuses, not "requirements." Nobody says you have to buy them, but if you want them, buy to your heart's content. Don't complain about how it's always like that, because then you're just asking for a flame war.

All in all, I mean to say just about this:

1) No censored vulgarity, just use different words, please.
2) Don't buy what you don't like, and the deal may seem better than you think.
3) "Free" PSN members still get added bonuses, such as the in-game chat (which probably isn't a mandatory thing, probably a set up such as the text chat).
4) Don't complain about something you've never had, or have no intention of getting.

EDIT: For all we know, there could be another motif behind all of this. Maybe they're losing revenue, maybe they need more for funding. Who knows? All I know is, if the deal is reasonable when it comes out I'll get it. So far it's not perfect, but it's not as bad as you guys describe it.

I've been reading all three articles, and I've found this the most interesting.

"…Cloud Storage Space for Games, which would allow players to save their game online rather than on their hard disk, protecting their data." Now, I don't know about you guys, but this is a big deal for me. I have a lot of games that eat up my data (MGS4, FFXIII, etc.) and this would be a great feature to see. If this was included in the premium, I'd be even happier. Along with the fact that although some options cost about $60, there's a cheap option that still has added benefits…

Sorry I didn't realize it wasn't ok to substitiute letters - I was just quoting what I have heard said on mics online by very small kids and trying not to use the actual words. And I don't think a pay system will solve that-it's just a real bug of mine.

And, I'm not saying that Sony shouldn't offer other things for a pay system.

It's just the question was asked what we think about it. It isn't that we think we will change things but it is just expressing an opinion. Once again, I am sorry for using the letter substitution in words. All I was saying is that there are many old and young people who have no problem expressing real vulgarities using the actual words for no reason at all.

The voice chat is fine-once again just expressing an opinion that many times what tends to go on is a lot of nonsense.

I'd be happy if this meant more reliable online service. I do think that there's a tendency for game makers to hate the fact they must maintain their own servers for PS3 play. And the Cloud saves idea would be cool.

By the way, does your tag-line referencing something Ilkar said to you or you to him about shutting the heck up, count as vulgarity? :-)

You are definitely entitled to expressing your opinions; I, in turn, being a forum member, am allowed to express my opinions as well. My opinion is that people shouldn't complain about something they've never had; it's just about the same as saying that everything here is OPTIONAL. It's their services, and they can choose what they will and won't make free; if they decide against you, you can't complain about it.
