Hey folks! Thought I'd ask a general question since I didn't see where it fit into other categories:

When do other players start summoning helpers? I just started out with a new character and I figured I could help people in the Boletarian palace who are having trouble beating the Phalanx. I sat there for about 45 minutes, soul sign, message about "you can summon here" and no one picked up!

I guess this begs the question…did you summon your first time through the game? Or was it more a matter of personal pride to try and beat every boss by yourself? (Me personally, I know my pride got in the way and I never summoned. )

I'm eager to help out newbies from the get-go but I don't know if the concept of summoning comes into play until later in the game.

Thoughts?

I did my first playthrough offline, didn't want it spoiled.

As for your question:
When you start out in 1-1, you start in soul form without ephemeral eye stones, so you pretty much have to beat Phalanx solo before being able to summon.
In NG+ on the other hand, you can summon as you please, but most players are well above sl 60 by then.
