Notes:
One of the best shields in the game, especially taking into account how early the player can potentially obtain it. Relatively light in weight and boasting the second-highest (fully-upgraded) HitRes and FireDamageCut% of any1 shield in the game, this item can stay with a character for quite some time; given the player adopts a sword-and-board style of play.
Location:
- 1-1 Dragon resting/nesting area.
- 1-1,3,4 Red Knight drop.

Upgrade Branch Split
Modifiers
- Dark - Magic damage reduction increased. HitRes doesn't improve. Split occurs at Purple Flame Shield +6
|
1 The DamageCut% stat dictates how much damage the shield mitigates on block. Where the DamageCut% stats for a shield are X/Y/Z:
- X is Physical Damage
- Y is Magical Damage
- Z is Fire Damage
When blocking, the Purple Flame Shield reduces 100% Physical Damage, 30% Magical Damage, and 90% Fire Damage.
2 The HitRes stat affects how much Stamina is required to block. It lowers the amount of Stamina drained when blocking attacks, and reduces the Stamina required to block "strong" attacks without breaking guard.
3 The Requirement stat concerns how high various skills must be in order to wield the shield. Where the Requirement stats for a shield are W/X/Y/Z:
- W is the Strength required
- X is the Dexterity required
- Y is the Magic required
- Z is the Faith required
The Purple Flame Shield requires 22 Strength to wield.
